Wtb 1987-88 535is with Manual Trans

Post by Steve123 »

Prefer to buy in California but am open to drive to neighboring states.

Looking to buy a 1987-88 535is manual transmission.

No preference on color.

Looking to acquire one that does not have rust and has good bones.

Sounds to me like he's looking for an entire manual transmission car, not just a transmission. :dunno:

Hi. I have a Bay Area, 100% California car, a white, 1987 533is with a manual 5 spd trans. It has been within my family since purchased new. I have two sets of wheels (BBS & Borbet), two new G-Force tires, nearly a full complement of good, used body seals and a number of mechanical parts. Sunroof (w/plexiglass wind deflector) and tan leather interior.

If you are interested, I can give you a full run-down on the car. Open and transparent information about the car. I am not interested in pulling the wool over anyone's eyes. I've been registered on MyE28 for years, but have no recent activity. Consequently, you may email me at 1987E28533is@gmail.com., which will remain active until I sell (or decide to keep) the car.

Just a WAG, but do you suppose that email should be 1987E28535is@gmail.com?

Indeed I suppose it could be one of the scammers our trusty moderators have warned us about, but how do I scam you if I give you the wrong address? I don't get it. I guess I would never be a very good scammer...

OP, good luck with your search. I would recommend considering a 535is with an automatic transmission if its condition is worthy, since they came from the factory both ways, and a good mechanic can do the conversion to manual fairly easily.

This car is local to me
I know the seller and his mechanic
Both solid people.
Not an iS, but a neat and pretty well sorted car

I have an iS - salmon on cardinal that will be for sale this summer, if you aren’t in a hurry. It’ll be a bit more spendy than the one above.

I have an '87 535is 5-speed. Mechanically sorted, AZ car, not rusty.

Originally Lachssilber over blue, has mostly been converted to black (carpet, front seats, all the dash pieces, etc). Plan was to do Cardinal.
in the last 5k miles or so it's had:

-All new suspension
-New pads/rotors, stainless lines
-Bilstein Sports, H&Rs
-Powerflex subframe bushings
-Lemförder everything except Moosehead UCABs, factory idler arm, Febi drag link
-New cooling system
-All power steering hoses, etc replaced
-New fuel system, including injectors
-Ignition parts
-New clutch, resurfaced flywheel, new clutch hydraulics (complete system), pedal bushings, upgraded clutch pedal spring
-Completely new factory shifter (over $900 in parts)
-New factory catalytic converter
-New SuperSprint cat-back exhaust system
-Crack-free dashboard
-VDO stereo with all new wiring
-New Heater Core
-New fuse box
AND MORE

Still has cold R12 AC.

Drive it anywhere. I drove it to Reno last year. Did awesome. Excellent car to drive.

Needs paint. I have 13 cars and I do really enjoy the car but 13 cars makes it tough.

I pinged ob1 and he responded that life got in the way but he would be back to list the warts on the car and move forward with discussions of his vehicle for sale. Maybe a week or three it seems.

How did you get in touch with obd1, Blue Shadow? I tried to send him a couple of e-mails and they both bounced back.

I used the fancy MyE28.com email system. Not a PM but an email. I'd post it but we don't do that and the email he set up his account with does work. Good Luck.

Thanks, wkohler!

Unfortunately, I am at my limit in terms of acquiring cars at the moment. I don't have 13, but until I finish my e28 project, I think I better hold steady on bringing something else home.

The reason I was reaching out to obd1 is because we are from the same city, and my current car resided there until I shipped it to where I live in 2019. I figured we could be 28 buddies, but I guess it was not to be. Sigh...

Can't believe I'm typing this, but have been debating letting go. If you're looking for a restoration candidate, this isn't the one. Mine is done. Located in Orange County, CA. Message me if interested and want to talk more.
