It wasn't so long ago that Brian/da Parts Pimp would sell you all the M Tech 1s you wanted for about $250! Ah, the good old days.

I remember about 2007 finding TONS of these at the junkyard in excellent condition, now they are long extinct. This was when 150 was reasonable

Seems like part of the value is in the box. Maybe it'll wind up on the wall of some collector's garage.

I never knew there were two versions of this wheel. Some commenters say because this is a rare, smaller 370mm it's more valuable than the much more common 385mm version. That's like, about 9/16" difference in diameter. Really?

Anyway, it'll be interesting to watch.

According to RealOEM there are actually three sizes, if not four.

Wonder what a coarse spline version might bring.

I just got a mint, restitched one for $300 shipped.
The BAT premium is ridiculous.

For those who did not get the references to Antiques Roadshow; This item is worth about $300, but if you had the original box it would be worth $1500.

a NOS 370mm M-Tech 1 is the holy grail of mtechnic wheels. this is not your average, every day find, nor is it some junkyard 385mm wheel, particularly with the original box included. it's a neat find, for sure.

No where in the BAT listing does the ad say the wheel is new/unused. I assume it is, but nothing says NOS.

Add in the BAT fee and... Damn not sure where the logic is in this.

This may be controversial , but as nice as the Mtech in my car was to look at , my wood momo feels so much better to drive with.

Really curious- what makes the 370mm so different from the 385mm, what gives it its "graily" status (other than rarity) - Is it just looks, or is there any improvement in the overall experience?

And also - what differences are there (in the experience, feel, perceived quality, etc) between the stock 3-spoke "Sport" wheel and any of the MTech 1s (370 or 385mm)?

It's clear to me that (of all wheels I know of that are available for the E28) the MTech 1s are the best looking.

The MTech wheel is uncomfortable to put ones hand around one of the horizontal spokes because they are square vs the triangle shape of the stock Sports wheel the 535 came with. I much prefer the stock sports wheel. It falls to hand and fits the MTech would be fine if I needed to have it because it was the MTech wheel but I don't. Both my rides have Momos anyway. And since the spokes on the Momo don't just fall to hand the rest of the shaped wheel is more fun to use while driving and can keep you planted in the seat when screaming through the twisties using the steering wheel for more support. To me and some others the MTech wheels are not really upgrades in the driving experience.

It was up to $1200 last time I looked—which is what I paid for mine maybe 15-years ago . . . but it was attached to a 535is 5-speed.

Maybe not like you, but I was a regular in the yards in those days and I only recall seeing one. Which I tried, but failed to harvest.

But apparently it went for $2400.

Seems it was a small 370, but fine spline. Jeez, if it was coarse spline (did they ever make a 370 coarse?) would it have been in 5 figures?
