A/C compressor seal replacement

Post by bbaxter »

I have two relatively new A/C compressors that are leaking freon from the front pully. One is in a '85 E30 the other is from a '95 M3. Does anyone have a source for either new seals, so I can repair them myself. Or someone I could send them to that can rebuild them? I am tired of buying new ones. Second time they have craped out within a years time. Thanks, bbaxter

That front seal does seem to be the failure pont on the wingcell compressors. Seems like they have 2 modes, slight weeppage and fully blown. Note not leaking at all is not one mode.

Seals are surely available somehow, somewhere, but I don't know where. There is a guy here, Jay I think it is, who does rebuild them. Probably for less than the cost of a Rockauto or wherever rebuild and likely a better job although I've never used his services. I don't know that he sells seals separately, but he might. Even if it's at a distinct premium to what he pays for them it would still be a service and a bargain.
