88 528e parts, and other stuff (socal)

Post by doug »

I bought this as a parts car in LA a few years ago. Mileage unknown (odo says about 60k, but I'm not buying it). Wrecked in the front and pretty rusty (this was a Canadian car once upon a time). I'll finish pulling what I think might be useful and then it's off to the crusher. I hate throwing out useful stuff, so let me know if there's something you might need.

Good motor/trans (g260), which I'm in the process of pulling to sell with harness, ECU, driveshaft, pedal box, exhaust, etc. Warmed it up a last week and did a compression check -- very even across all cylinders. Will update when it's actually out of the car and available.

Among other things I need to get rid of, and for some reason which I cannot understand, I also have a bunch of e34 rear seats in black, mostly in good condition, which need a home, and a few black e34 front seats, most have at least one split. And a pair of PB cloth front e28 seats. And matching rear seat. And carpet in decent condition. Free.

Also a 4hp22 with flex plate and cooling lines from my euro e24 which I converted to g265 as soon as I got it. Any offer accepted, but the lower the offer, the more crap you have to take away with you.

Hi Doug, how are the panels? I’m looking for a good trunk lid with no spoiler holes.

The trunk lid and the c-pillar covers are the only body parts worth using. Trunk has some minor scratches but actually looks like it would clean up nicely. Black. If you want it, I'll be in LA in mid-November and could bring it along.

*note ... just put a bit of wax on it to see what would happen. Takes a shine, but will need to be detailed/buffed to pass muster. Also there are two dime-sized minor depressions (i.e. dents) of the kind that I probably wouldn't notice on my alpinweiss trunk lid.

Dave,

Does the passenger side hood binge tend to fail? Recently I’ve had to manual lift the hood at the hinge to clear the wiper when opening the hood.

Seems to be a weak point. Considering how long I’ve been looking - unsuccessfully- for one.

Update. If anyone is interested in the motor, ECU, harness, trans, pedal box, driveshaft, exhaust, and whatever else, I’ll have it out soon. I was going through the records that came with the car and found that the last time it was smogged was in 2013 and the mileage noted was just shy of 49k. I think I picked it up in 2014, so 60k is actually a theoretical possibility. Car was purchased in Montreal, was there until at least 2001, in Cambridge, MA by 2003. First CA record in 2013. So it’s possible. That also explains the rust. BTW, I measured 84, 84, 85, 84, 85, 87. $1000 for the kit and caboodle?

Also, trying to keep up with the PMs. Sorry if I’m not responding.

The aluminum bumper itself is straight. Molding has seen better days. Getting it off will be interesting. Shipping costs will make it hard to justify, I would think.
