The owners son drove it there. He told me his dad bought it in 1969 and drove it everyday to college and just after. He parked it in 1975 on a lift in his fathers garage and there it hung all these years. He did the bare minimum to the brakes and to get it running and said he’s going to drive it to shows like this and around town. He admitted he was nervous about getting hit, but said it will stay in the family and he doesn’t even intend on washing it off.cek wrote:Dale3783 wrote:An alloy bodied 300sl showed up to caffeine and carburetors this morning. That thing is worth, like, a zillion doll hairs. I hope they leave it exactly as it is forever. THAT takes balls.

Not sure if this is that out of the ordinary, but given we like old cars...
Re: What out of the ordinary cars did you see today?
What's the yellow car? Doesn't look familiar to me and I have a pretty good eye for the older stuff. Looks British, but I can't place it.

Yes, it's an Elan.Bert-Ola wrote:Looks like an Lotus Elan.
Mike, I'm surprised you didn't know. If for no other reason that Emma Peel drove one. I thought the original "Avengers" was on American TV but maybe not.
I don't know what the deal is with old Chevy wagons but there seems to be millions of them in the eastern suburbs. This is the third one in ten days.

It was, I used to watch the reruns back in the 1970s. I used to watch reruns of The Saint back then as well.Karl Grau wrote:Mike, I'm surprised you didn't know. If for no other reason that Emma Peel drove one. I thought the original "Avengers" was on American TV but maybe not.

I do remember a few Lotus's, but I've never been much on TV. Sometimes roommates did, but I really didn't have a TV between 71 and 85.stuartinmn wrote:It was, I used to watch the reruns back in the 1970s. I actually saw a 524 td today in Seattle, Bronzit, very nice condition, eccentric little old lady at the helm. I was on my bike so no time to photo.
But YESTERDAY.... also whilst on a bike.... I wish I had time at the stoplight or was wearing a head cam but anyway I can verify that there is a dirty blonde hippie-chick, longish hair, who drives a 993 GT2. I knew they were rare AF so I looked it up. A grand total of 57 made, making it probably the rarest specific car I've ever seen. Hers is purple/Aubergine of course.

No picture, unfortunately, as I was driving. 300 SL, on the road in Naples Fl earlier this week. Exotics are fairly common there, but a 300SL, not so much.

Not a particularly good picture, but hey I was in a rush.
Damn, you might be right. I did see the Kadett resemblance, but still thought it was a Vega. Wow, that would make it much more rare, especially with a V8 in it.

Is that a Vega? It looks like it could be an Opel.
Re: What out of the ordinary cars did you see today?
I know, I see that too, but it was a Vega. Look at the tail.stuartinmn wrote:Is that a Vega? It looks like it could be an Opel.
Edit. On closer review I think you're right. Damn, that would make it really rare, how many V8, Opel Kadett wagons are out there?

Re: What out of the ordinary cars did you see today?
I used to have a '67 Opel Kadette Wagon, which is why it looked familiar to me. I believe this one is an early 1970s model 1900, which was a physically larger car but it still had the same general shape and design. My car was quite a bit smaller, it would have taken a big shoehorn to get a V8 in that car.

I had a brown 74 Dart I bought for 50$ and drove for almost 2 yrs. It was nowhere as nice as that baby blue sedan. So many 50s Chevies, with palm trees, I thought you were touring Havana. Fine looking '64 Impala. The last nice looking Chevy ever made.
Re: What out of the ordinary cars did you see today?
Spotted a beautiful Benz 300D in traffic the other day. It was in shockingly good condition, and I did find myself wishing it was mine.

I was following a 2005 or 2006 Ford GT after lunch today. Sort of a dark midnight blue, with no stripes. Oddly enough he seemed to be heading for the car wash down the street from my office...I hope that wasn't the case (not sure if one of those would even fit on the track in the car wash.)
Re: What out of the ordinary cars did you see today?
Was walking my younger brother to school this morning and passed by the ol' M3 house. Yup, still there. Been sitting since before I graduated, which is at least 7 years now. I almost want to walk up and ask them if they'd ever part with it...

Someone who lives around the corner from me apparently just got an ex-Swiss army Pinzgauer, I've noticed it parked on the street for the last week or two. Like this:
