M30 Flywheel FAQ (Motronic controlled)

There are at lease two OEM solid (single mass) flywheels for the M30 Motronic controlled engines. The lighter of the flywheels was original equipment on the M30 Motronic controlled models and the NA (North American) production M5 and M6. The change over production date from the lighter to the heavier flywheel in the M30 Motronic controlled production run was January of 1984, February 1984 production vehicles should/would have the heavier flywheel.

Part number 11 22 1 271 463 is the early / M5 & M6 flywheel and it weighs 7.940 Kg. (17.47 Lbs.).
This flywheel was original equipment on the following models:

NA Production Models:
5 Series E28 Sedans: 533I, M5
6 Series E24 Coupes: 633Csi, M6
7 Series Sedans 733i

Euro/World production Models:
5 Series E28 Sedans: M5
6 Series E24 Coupes: 633Csi, 635Csi, M635CSi
7 Series Sedans 732I, 735i

Part Number 11 22 1 289 244 is the later M30 flywheel and it weighs 10.0 Kg (22.0 Lbs.).
This flywheel was original equipment on the following models:

NA Production Models:
5 Series E28 Sedans: 533I, 535i
6 Series E24 Coupes: 633Csi, 635CSi
7 Series Sedans 733I, 735i

Euro/World production Models:
5 Series E28 Sedans: 535I, M535i
6 Series E24 Coupes: 635Csi
7 Series Sedans 732I, 735i
