how to ask and answer threads/posts

Post by pauly »

Please walk me through each step on how to ask and answer threads/posts.
I have a question about my 1985 535i noisy in tank fuel pump.
Does anyone know of a quiet aftermarket brand
I tried 3 dealer supplied Bosch pumps.
All totally unacceptable.
BMW says too bad, That they are all noisy.

Don't say "I have a question." This irritates the crap out of me. Just ask the question, which will be telling us you have a question because -- wait for it -- it's a question!

Don't say "Does anyone know of a quiet aftermarket brand?" The answer to that would be "yes" or "no," but what you're really wanting to know is not if anyone knows about whether any brands exist, but which brands are quiet.

Instead, say "I have tried three dealer-supplied Bosch fuel pumps, but they have all been noisy. The dealer says 'too bad -- they are all noisy.' What aftermarket brands are quiet?"
