Wow. Zero responses since my last post in 2012, TEN YEARS AGO!!!

Anyway, moar suspension setup pics:

Fronts: DIY coilovers using Koni sport shocks for an E30 iX, E28 housings shortened by 1" (I could have/should have gone 2"), Eibach 2.5" ID coilover springs, I think 400 lb/in, and ebay aluminum camber plates.
Rears: Bilstein sport shocks (meant for an E28), coilover sleeves added, Eibach 2.5" ID coilover springs 7" length, 375 lb/in. I think the springs are way too stiff for these shocks, I think I need more damping, so the Billies will have to go...

Wheels: 16x8 ET0 (rear) and ET16 (front) from a 1986 Trans Am GTA with machining done to bolt up to the E28. One pic shows one of my BBS RS026 (16x10 ET36) which I have machined for E28 fitment, but am currently stripping down and restoring.

Tires: Front 205/55/16, rear 225/50/16

When I switch to BBS RS wheels, I plan to get new inner barrels for the fronts converting the wheels to 16x8, and then run 215/50/16 front and 245/45/16 rear.

Hi Guys
Could someone send me a reference/ link to the Billy Spports that seem to be so commonly installed.
Anyone has one on an M5?
Thanks

I love the wheels. I was looking at the trans am wheels, but was never sure of the offsets. What did you have to get machined to fit the e28? I know the bolt pattern is a tiny bit off. The have adapters for that, but I’m assuming you did something else. Plus adapters would change the offsets completely and probably wouldn’t work. Also what size tires are you running on these? Any info is appreciated. The wheels look exactly like Epsilon Southernways. One of my favorite wheels, but super hard to find in the right sizes.

You mean the rear billy sports? Pretty much any suspension vendor sells those.

You can't use adapters. The rear wheels stick out too far as it is. I would even recommend machining a couple mm off the back hub mounting face of the rear wheels.

Two things have to be machined: The center bore and the lug seats. For the center bore you need a mill. For the lug seats, I made my own tool. First of all, this only works if you did a stud conversion on your E28, which everyone should do Anyway. Then I took a regular lug nut, drilled the threads out of it, and used a dremel to cut grooves into the conical face to make it into a cutting tool. Then I Installed the wheel onto the car w 4 lug nuts (lightly torqued, just to center the wheel), then in the 5th lug area I used a drill and the new "lug seat cutting tool", and "milled" the lug seat until it was centered on the stud. Then I installed a lug nut there, removed the next lug nut, repeat.

Here's a pic of the "lug seat cutting tool".

I am running 205/55/16 front and 225/50/16 rear.

Bilstein B8 all around with BavAuto lowering springs. Wheels are 15x7 et13 ACS type 1 with 205/60 all around.

On the internet. Most vendors who sell Bilstein shocks sell them.

Yep, you have to shorten the strut tubes, which is the whole point of using the iX shocks in an E28.
