Christine Diy classic daily swap

Post by sQuirly »

I'll start by saying I'm in over my head.
This project will be my attempt to assemble all the parts I've been acquiring over the last 15 ish years.
Basics:
85 528e ~100k
Connect & cruise ls3-t56 combo
Classic daily mounts, headers, fan shroud.
Misterfixit taillight upgrades,
Moosehead ucabs and rear strut plates
Brent k strut brace
Holy grail fusebox.

One thing I learned is the gto pan is a better fit for this swap.

however I already purchased the Canton pan.

The gto pan has internal plumbing to route the oil to a forward filter housing. The Canton pan requires an adapter to run remote lines elsewhere in the engine bay. This is problematic due to the proximity of the steering linkage.
Luckily I purchased a remote setup from Jeremy a decade ago. Best guess is the filter will be mounted under the passenger front corner.

Here you can see how Jakes headers wrap around the steering box Image

And the passenger side:

Finally got around to fixing this mistake I made.
Jake mentioned this in his write up but I overlooked it.
The concentric slave cylinder can't be reached from outside the bell housing like a bmw one so I had to pull the transmission and install this Sikky brand e30 line kit.

A while back I mocked up the connect and cruise wiring harness to figure out what brackets may be needed.
Seems the ecu and fuse block will need to go to the passenger front corner

That means I won't have room for the intake on the passenger and will have to mount the air filter above or in place of the battery.
I found a simple intake kit on Amazon that had the maf boss already welded in.

This should be enough to get me close to were I want it.

sQuirly thank you for posting this. I began to collect parts to abandon my m30 turbo and go LS. I bought sport seats off you a few years ago and after looking at your project, i figured it would be cheaper and more reliable to go in this direction. . . Now if I can only figure out how to finish building my garage while watching my 2.5 year old.

Another lesson learned.
Its very important to order the Magnum-f trans because it uses a tailstock similar to the f-body which is in the neighborhood of 3" longer from pilot bearing to shifter centerline than the magnum.

Badger good luck with your project. I understand the struggle
