Aubergine? 348
Magic Violett 260?

Could just be Burgundy Rot/red in an odd color or faded photo: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1983- ... a-5-speed/

Do you know the car? Was it built by Alpina?

The first pic was from Pinterest so I’m not sure if it’s Alpina-built. I’m not convinced that it’s the same color as the second pic.

Thanks for the BAT link. The BAT pic #169 for the paint code shows Burgundrot-metallic. Good eye!

Coincidentally, pic #65 shows the same image as the second pic.

The second pic is from Alpina’s website so I’m sure that it is a real Alpina. It seems more metallic than the first pic. Maybe it’s the light?

Ok, after watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLXC-WO5cdU, the second Alpina pic is definitely NOT Burgundrot-Metallic.

I've also ruled out the following:
Aubergine, Magic Violet, Amethyst, Royal Red, Mora Metallic.

Burgundrot-Metallic has red but lacks the purple/violet tint. Mora Metallic is purple/violet but needs more red tint.

So the mystery remains. What color is this Alpina?

I contacted Alpina and surprise, surprise, it was burdundrot metallic after all. Crazy how that light changes it so much. Case closed.

Remember, back then it was just a photo. Photos fade, and film type as well as processing can alter colors as much as normal exposure settings. Royal Blau was another E28 color of that time that varied by lighting and was often referred to as "purple". Just ask Dan Tackett.
