Not sure what that means exactly but Bruce is kinda known for saying crazy things (among a lot of other things). General feeling about that place is they do world class work but most of the customers, all of which have WAY more money and important cars than I do are never very happy with how long they take. I'm pretty sure it worked out for both of us.
I think he meant that "it would have taken 2 weeks" if you had come in through the door like a regular client, offering to pay money for their services... rather than having a barter-like exchange of work. Which probably worked out best for you, given the level of service and the kind of cars they usually work on. I'd be (at least a bit) intimidated to walk in that space full of 1960s Ferraris and pre-war one-offs asking for a paint job on an old E28...

I had a good friend who worked there for a bit and overheard Bruce say he wanted a new custom kitchen in his project lake house and thought of me. The offer to paint the car in trade for the kitchen I made him came up later. I would have never walked in off the street and ever thought I'd have any work done by a place like that on something I own.

This thread never disappoints. I came for the cars, and stayed for the "booby trap."

Here's some rollers from the Florida Bimmers Alligator Alley Rally. Had a great time meeting some other BMW people and seeing some great cars. Mostly newer stuff, lots of M2's, M5's, and a ton of e46 through f30 3 series. My car absolutely felt like the odd man out. Not the most exciting drive, as alligator alley is a straight shot across southern Florida but we had a great lunch at the end of the road in Naples. Longest drive I've had in this car in about a year, probably four and a half hours of driving time split by lunch, and it performed perfectly. Really need to get the AC up and running though. Hot trip. It was worth it just for these pictures.
