^^^^ You certainly do! Another car on a short list of cars that I'll probably regret selling one of these days. My favorite color combo as well.

Chris and Mike spent a good chunk of time and money giving this car a new lease on life. Driving it home, I covered the front with a hood bra and painters tape, lest it get a rock chip! It worked.

Well-bought Dave! That's a hell of a car. I'm glad it's staying local (to the forum).

I have a 1985 M535i (euro market car brought in to US from Germany same year it was built) and I'm almost done with making it perfect. I need some help to finish:

The air conditioning condenser has a hole in it and no one stocks the part. Also junk yard hunting with no results. Any suggestions?

I want to add the correct rear spoiler. These are hard to find. What is the model #?

I have a rear M badge purchased through Bav Auto, but it looks like these cars might have had an oversized M back then? The pic in the previous post of the silver car (nice example!) seemed to suggest a little larger ///M, that I'm used to. Just perspective?

Car was pin striped. Keep it or make it look just like the Norev model? :D

Thanks in advance!

Is it a factory a/c car, or does it have the Diavia aftermarket air conditioning? Euro cars often didn't have the factory air conditioning so it was added later.

It's the same spoiler used on the M5 and 535is. You can see the part numbers for the components here: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpar ... Id=41_0782 I haven't checked but I doubt you can buy them new anymore. They show up in the classified ads here from time to time, here's one: http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=147959

The ///M wasn't oversized, it was the same thing used on an M5 just without the 5. There's a thread somewhere here on the board that shows the placement of the ///M on the trunk lid if you need the dimensions - you can probably find it with the search function.

Personal preference. :) When I had my M535i restored I left it off.

Hi all. Longtime member, not around lately due to changing vehicle interests.

A friend has asked me to reach out to the forum in hopes of finding his father's M535i. Cinnabar red.

Some details: gray market car (duh) imported by a company in Massachusetts that handled importation back in the 80s. Guy named Keith Bengal bought it, moved it down to Virginia Beach, and then sold it to my friend's dad, a Gerald (Gerry) Moreau, in Providence, Rhode Island. Gerry owns German Motors, the premier European workshop in the state.

It was in Rhode Island until 1995 or thereabouts when Gerry sold it, I believe to someone in the NY/NJ area, but not sure.

Just wondering if anyone recognizes this migration pattern of a red M535i, and whether or not it still exists. My friend would like to make a very fair offer to buy the car.

Thanks!

It was in Poughkeepsie, then went to a guy “robsgotit,” then to “igotbank” then to “hubble1953” in Idaho where he sold it in 2010 for I think $3500. Not sure where it went to after that. Assuming we are talking about the Zinno/pearl beige cloth DC71 car with enough rust on the A-pillar to prevent the drip rail from being affixed.

Hello.

Just rescued my Uncle's M535i from his barn, where it was sat since 2004.

It's gone in for assesment at a BMW restoration specialist in the UK. Hopefully, if the underneath is solid, i'll be able to add it to this list.

Lots of reading to do re: brake upgrades and potential suspension, though i suspect there will be a lot of welding between now and then.

Classic Bahnstormers is an up-coming E28 / 1980's BMW specialist worth considering. My 1987 Bronzitbeige over Nutria leather 525e is with them for a body restoration and re-paint.

My UK 1986 M535i upon acquisition. Currently being welded from the ground up because as is typical, it was mostly held together by panels.

Manchester, UK.

I recently purchased a 1986 M535i (Recently auctioned on Bat) car is in the process of being shipped to Co. A friend of mine who also owns a 85 M535i lives only a few minutes away! Excited to start learning and driving this car, if you were able to see the auction then you are aware of the incredible work and care this car has known. I want to add my thanks to all those who posted detailed information and fun facts about its history. I am planning on selling the throwing stars as I have a set of staggered polished that I will mount up as soon as it arrives, anyone interested please reach out. My absolute favorite wheel, great name, functional, super easy to clean, light weight, looks pretty good even without the covers! I will post some pictures when I get some time and the weather starts to warm up here, Colorado is not so pretty in the winter except up in the mountains! If anyone has any advice or tips on how to get the best from the m535i please pass them on, look forward to hearing from other owners.

Welcome to the heard, raztaz.
If you haven't done so already, I have an on-going thread on mine that you can mine for some information, I just added a whole bunch to it today:
https://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=139465

Maybe we can get an M535i gathering, I can think of at least four of us within reasonable distance.
How about Charlie hosts at Gruntled, Inc.?

Charlie (cek) is in Durango; Gruntled is his personal shop/workspace/life philosophy. He's got a thread on the space and his cars as well as on GarageJournal.com

Charlie mentioned Travis there in Colorado and I was referring to me in Los Angeles and Kohler (wkohler) in Phoenix. We all could conceivably make a road trip to some neutral location.

I'd love to host a wrench-fest at Gruntled sometime. That'd be fun.

Do you know where in Colorado Travis is, Durango would be a sweet trip, absolutely beautiful part of our state, I would be a definitely if can be arranged. Summer in Phoenix would make anyone head north to the cool mountains for some wrenching, ogling and driving curvy roads! Los Angeles just as much?! My friend Jim with the 85 is only about 5 min. away from me, long drive I know!
