M5 / M535 Seat Badges

Post by 87royal »

Don't know if you guys would consider this "Tech Talk".
I searched, but could not find a post or thread with info on spec position of the M5/M535 seat badges.
Is there a spec distance from top or bottom of seat?

Thanks!

There is a small horizontal indentation (from where the leather is attached to the underlying support by thread) - badge goes there. Here's the 1st seat pic I found in the M5 section:

Others of Mike Gray's chairs are here:

Thank you.
I saw that pic, but it's hard to get an exact measurement from it.

John is correct - the M Tech badges fit "in the pucker".

I measured both my front seats and the TOP of the badge is approx. 8 3/4" to 8 7/8" as measured with a tape RUNNING ALONG THE SEAT from the LEADING EDGE of the seat back cover.

Measured in the same fashion, the badges on the rear seat are approx. 11 1/2"to 12" (one of my badges on the original rear seat back measures 1/2" lower than the other - so much for German precision!) as measured from the TOP of the rear parcel deck to the TOP of the badge.

Hope this helps!!

Thank you Mike Gray, It helped a lot!

It hurts me to have holes punched into my seats :(

Hey, that's my car! That was a picture from the PO's ad.

Nice surprise.

Hello,

Is it possible to put M -badges to the seats, where them has not been originally? If so, does it need some special upholstery job or just put spikes through leather?

Thanks.

Just spikes through leather, hopefully on the line with the stitching, but I don't know about that part.

Not on this forum as most already have the badges. Try the tech talk forum.

Or just get a pair for the seats and see how the fit and push them in place in the bend in the seatback. Remove the rear of the seatback to see the pins come through and fold them over to secure them. Not too difficult.

If someone has photos after installation, please show it. Is there some differences in the upholstery from the factory (with or without badges)? Thank you.

Old thread, but looking for some info.
The front sport seats in my m5 don't have "puckers" where the m badge would go.
The leather is old and aged, so don't think they've been recovered. Could the seats be out of a different model?
How can I tell? Is there a way to get the pucker in the seats without reupholstering them?

Thanks for any thoughts and info.

Stock seat covers or replacement covers for an M5/M535 would have holes punched in the leather in the appropriate spot for the badges. Good luck.
