Replacement exhaust options for 535i in CA

Post by Jeffyman5000 »

I'm curious if anyone has any good tips on replacing an exhaust (headers back at least) besides scouring the internet for an OEM someone wants to part with. From what I can find, I either buy the components separately: muffler, cat, pipes, maybe headers and hope they all fit together. Or get a custom set made, and probably still buy a CARB complient cat.

Cat back really doesn't matter in California and several options available.

Headers back? Headers are a no no in CA so I'm going to guess you meant exhaust manifolds back. Options range widely but you're going to have to use a CA compliant cat, or the original. Most smog techs don't really check but if it fails amd they notice no catalytic converter it's a problem.

If the car is stock, and has a catalytic that passes smog, just run a cat back system. Do a search on the forum amd you'll get some information.
