Front Axle refresh

Post by Abaky »

Hi there

FFinally got time to strip down the front axle on y european e28 M5 (1986). It is used for FAST road driving only.

So FAR:
the shocks inserts are off to bilstein to be refreshed and re-valved,
Upper strut mounts need to be replaced
The rubber boot/covering of the top and bottom control arms, where they connect to the knuckle are torn
The bushings of the anti roll bar are completely perished

And its only day one, and only the driver side...

Some questions for those more experienced than me regarding the replacement of theses parts
The strut mounts, are there any upgrades available other than oem bmw replacement struts?
The rubber boots on the control arms, can they be replaced separately or do I have to replace both arms whole?
My anti roll bar is 21mm?? i read everywhere that the m5 e28 has a 25mm anti roll bar, can anyone expand on this, as I will be looking for polyflex bushings and they do not appear to be available in 22 mm?

Any upgrades suggestions whilst i am there?
thanks

Only the later Euro M5s got the thicker rollbars. Pre October 86 means 21mm in the front and 15,5mm in the rear. Post October 86 means 25mm front and 18mm rear.
