QUIETEST REAR MUFFLER AVAILABLITY

Post by Mario L. »

Friends,

I am trying to quiet down a very loud BMW E28 with an S54, in the past this would have been with a stock BMW rear muffler . . presently these are presently not available, next arrival date in Germany is March 2022.

B&B is too loud, and as we all know, space for mufflers on this chassis is limited .. suggestions please!

I have a SuperSprint system on my M5 (M88/3, stock headers, no cat, etc). Not overly loud. Also have the US 535 system on a 535is. I recently drove an S54 car with a SuperSprint on it as well. No cat and I felt it was actually a pretty nice exhaust which I wasn't expecting because of how raspy the S54 can sound. I assumed it would sound like a catfight in a dumpster, but it seemed civilized. Even the stock exhaust on my M Coupe has a bit of rasp once you hit 4k which seems a bit un-BMW-like.

That said, their lead time is usually significant and even moreso with the pandemic, so not sure if they will give you any better timeline. Amazingly when we ordered the 535 system, Turner had one in stock so that was nice. I waited like 6 months for the complete headers to tailpipe system for the E12 M535i I bought in 2019. Might almost sound like I like the SuperSprints.

Thank you, valuable information. We use a lot of Supersprint, and you're right, one has to wait....
