D2 coilovers too harsh on bumps, replacements?

Post by sanships »

My car came with D2 coilovers ( from Taiwan?) installed by PO. Doesn’t seem like it was used that much since installation maybe 5 years ago due to transmission problems. Lately during test drives of the car to sort out the problems, the car seems to ride a little bouncy in city streets. I’ve told the mechanic to put it in the softest setting already. I’ve set the ride height to about 13.75” front and 13” back for now hoping the ride would soften up a bit. It feels sporty on the highways when roads are smoother but speed bumps really punishes and kinda hops around even at 5mph/8kph.

Is there a way to set the ride softer using basic coilover adjustment methods or should I change the springs? Or change coilovers to new ones instead? Think the type of roads where potholes and patched roads are common. Speeds usually at 40-60kph. Used to have e32 735i and that rode very very well.

Appreciate all the help from this forum. Thanks!
