Hi everyone, just purchased an m535i which is very rare here in the Philippines. It’s always been a dream for me to own one since I was in college back in 84. I’ve owned an USDM 88’ e30 m3, sold it in 93 in Manila when I couldn’t find maintenance shops that could fix it(BMW didn’t establish dealerships till 96 in the Philippines, wish I still had it). Then a few other diesel bmws for the growing family in the past few years.

Now, since e28’s were never really officially imported here, all e28’s were gray market and quite rare even back in the 90’s. I was quite surprised when this came up locally in Cebu city. The PO was in the middle of repairing it and had to sell due to pandemic effect on his business. This car has been passed around in the last 8 years as I understand it mainly with a broken 4hp22eh trans and has barely ran.

Guess I broke the first rule of buying the best car you can afford when there’s hardly anyone selling e28’s here. So my plan is to work on this car with my kids who are now driving as a pandemic project. Been buying parts off eBay and pelican parts in the past month to get it running right. It’s still with the old shop mechanic that the PO used when he sold it. The PO bought another transmission and got the best parts from both to get it running again but still not working right. Plus we are trying to solve other problems from the years of non running.

I’ll be posting a lot of questions and hope the group will be patient with me. Have driven it and it seems to be in pretty good basic shape. Interior need work and the history is non existent. Have to baseline it then slowly work around other things that pop up.

Hi Sanships!
If you remove the "_m" from the urls you posted, the pictures show up much larger - I believe that's used to indicate mobile users so data use is limited.
If you have any electrical questions feel free to PM me and I'll do my best the help out.

Thanks Galahad for the warm welcome and offer for assistance. Will surely take you up on that.

The car was originally diamond swartz but PO decided to change it to a dark green shade. There was corrosion repair done previously but unknown how well it was rebuilt since it’s already been painted by the time I got it. Might change it back to original color if paint quality goes bad in a year or so.

The engine bay needs a lot of small pieces to complete since previous owners were not meticulous in keeping track of removed/broken items. There has been some mods in the electrical wirings to put extra fan relays, etc…Hope there has not been too much of the original wirings cut.

Will send more pictures in the next few days as the mechanic sorts out the problems.

Not a bad choice. Reminds me of the Euro specific gray-green (grau-gruen) paint color from that era.

Yeah, using Johnny air cargo mostly and it arrives in about 2 weeks. Getting kinda expensive though with problems coming up slowly and having to order pieces one by one. Think there are only less than 5 e28’s here in cebu and I don’t see any of them. The shop I use has an e24 635csi auto euro version that I’m looking at if I can get my m535i to run. He he. This pandemic has me looking at project cars. It’s awful but fun!
