Reproduction Exhaust Tips

Post by m535is »

Hey guys,

I have been working on reproducing the long NLA Exhaust tips and have finally been able to make it happen. I have 6 sets, 3 are chromed iirc and the others are unfinished, but can be black powder coated. They are exact replicas of the originals. Made of brass, end rolled, other end flared, stamped crimps. Here is a picture after chroming. These are made to fit the US M5/M6 exhaust. Since brass pipe is not available in the right diameter it had to be enlarged before anything. PM me if interested.

Received my new exhaust tips today.

They look amazing!

I laughed out loud when I opened the box they were shipped in. I immediately knew I wasn't going to be disappointed because whoever packaged them is a perfectionist even worse than I am.

Thank you Rob for a fantastic product. I look forward to installing and enjoying them.

I received my exhaust tips yesterday. I opted for chrome, Rob had to send a raw set to be chrome plated. Fantastic quality and workmanship went into producing these exhaust tips. My Bride now says I have to finish the assembly of my M5.

They look amazing ... well done!

For an M5, what was the original finish (US)? Black powder coating?

Yes the original finish is a black powder coat which is a semi-gloss. It should match the finish of the bumpers.

Hi,
Any chance you still have a set of the the E28 M5 reproduction exhaust tips? I'd love to have a pair even in the chrome so I could powder coat them? Also, just to make sure they fit, what is the inner diameter at the crimps? The 45mm ones that BMW used to sell I think are too small. Thanks, Steve Wurth

I figure you know what you have for an exhaust but asking to be sure, are you using the M5 exhaust?

These tips are for that size pipes. The pipe size is different from other E28 exhaust pipes.

These tips are design to exactly replicate the original US M5 and M6 exhausts. They attach the same way as the original, with pressure created from "dimples". At this time I have only 1 set which are chromed left. I do not plan to make another batch due to not having a fabricator who can do the work anymore. I do have the tooling, but the skills of the fabricator are what make them exact copies or very expensive paper weights.

^^^ Didn't you just buy the very nice m5 that Dean Laumbach had for sale on BaT? Looked like a very nice example. I did notice it was missing the exhaust tips, however. Hope you can locate a set. Safe travels!
