You sure that's the correct part for the 265? I could have sworn I saw that fitting the 260/6 which is 86-88 535i with the fins on the bottom of the tranny.

Oh I could be totally wrong, I was just going off RealOem, which gave that number for the overdrive transmission (didn't specify 260/6 or 265/6). Would the 23 71 1 175 731 part number be the actual part I'm looking for?

Dont mean to hijack this thread, but one quick question; Are people using one or two transmission mounts? I have heard/read differing opinions?

thx.

You can use the 1 or 2 bushing mount. Either will work.

see, that's interesting. You searched RealOEM for the "Euro 535" and your RealOEM link shows the trannies referred to as "5-speed (overdrive)" and "5-speed sports". The "Overdrive" (Getrag 265/6) calls for Part No.23711128517, whereas the "sports" (Getrag 265/5, "dogleg", 5th gear ratio is 1:00) calls for Part No.23711175732.

Now, if you search RealOEM for the "US 535" for 1985, it mentions 2 trannies: "Getrag 260" and "Getrag 265". The 265/5 was never offered on E28s in the US, so the "265" mentioned there must be the 265/6. But it just so happens that the crossmember mentioned for the "Getrag 265" is Part No.23711175732, the same part (!!!) listed as for the 265/5 in your "Euro 535" parts listing.

RealOEM, US 535i, 1985 - Getrag 265 - part 23711175732, 1 mounting bolt to left rail on car frame (#5):

RealOEM, US 535i, 1985 - Getrag 260 - part 23711128517, 2 mounting bolts to left rail on car frame (#7):
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=23_0386

I'm starting to wonder whether RealOEM is not entirely consistent, or whether the crossmembers are generally interchangeable between all 3 manual transmissions available for the US-market, non-M5 E28s.

Also, anyone know why RealOEM shows "2 rubber mounting" pieces required for either part 75732 or 28517, but the diagram shows space just for one rubber mounting piece each? That's... a bit confusing. Would love to hear from others

I'm not sure the part numbers are correct, but the images are definitely not. So they might show the right part number, but if the image is wrong, it won't look right and might show 2 mounts because the part uses 2 mounts, but the image is wrong so it only shows one. And many places show the wrong part number for the rubber mounts for the 2 mount one, it uses the -732 which has studs angled to each other, not straight. The 2 pics are for 265 trannys and either will work.

This is the steel single mount one,

And this is the aluminum double mount,

The 4 bolt mounting to the car is for 260s.
