WTB- M30 chain tensioner rail 11311262273
WTB- M30 chain tensioner rail 11311262273
Looking for the infamous chain tensioner rail BMW part # 11311262273. My car has approximately 175k miles and found it has an aftermarket chain tensioner that has worn through about half the thickness of a dime on the top and bottom ends.

Half the thickness of a dime? What's that, .020" or so? I've been in a bunch of M30s and I don't think I've ever seen one with that little wear. I have seen probably an eighth of an inch, maybe more. I've replaced one or two but mostly reused them, without a failure. Now the guide is problematic, it gets hard and brittle and breaks. But the tensioner is pretty solid, from your description I'd describe it as used, with minimal wear. Now I don't have it in hand, but...
It does appear the factory part is backordered pretty much everywhere. I am seeing an aftermarket at Pelican though. But from the sounds of things I'd reuse yours without a second thought.

Mike, thanks for the info. This is my first M30, so veteran knowledge is welcomed. I’m replacing everything else, piston, spring, chain, sprockets etc. The old piston had one of the tabs broken off so hoping to find that in the oil pan when I reseal it.
Re: WTB- M30 chain tensioner rail 11311262273
My M30 was the same when I pulled the head to fix oil leaks except the teeth on the tensioner guide were completely broken off, tensioner was wedged weird, I replaced it all and what's funny vs old and new bmws is it was pretty quiet and didn't skip a beat timing wise. Lol. A new engine is kaput with any issues like that or let's you know. This little tabs are probably fine at the bottom of the oil pan for good. I did do the pan too and forget if I saw that little junk there! I think I probably did!
I believe the procedure is to use a screwdriver to pump up the tensioner thru the upper timing case once the engine is assembled after pouring some oil in the tensioner "reservoir". It stiffens up, and is then ready to start after priming the Hydraulic piston for the chain tensioner.

I post a WTB for a part and you hijack my thread and ask for the same thing. Who does that?
