Because the E39 has larger hub centers.

Actually, the other question was the stupid one. This one is smart … and I don't know the answer (other than to measure the hub bore size). ;)

I would think a 205 would be stretched too much on a 16x8 rim. 225 would be the minimum that I put on a set.

205s are fine. This is just under the recommended tire width for that wheel width, but it is not ridiculous.

Actually, I gotta go with Nick here. The widest recommended rim for a 205 is 7½". I'd sure look for a 215 if it were available, though ...

There is as near to no difference between a 215 and a 205 as makes no odds, and you end up with the incorrect rolling radius. The 215s are still recommended for 7.5" max.

Maybe its me, but why run 205's on a 16x8 rim Anyway? I bought 16x8's so I could run 245/45's and 265/45's. If I wanted to run 205's I'd use 16x5's as I would see more benefit from the lighter wheels.

if i get a style 5 from a e38 and put some 225/55/16/ all around, in addition to getting 4 hub ring (part number 74-7256), what spacer do i need to get? I have a 87' 535i

i know the fronts will rub with i run 225s...

225/50/16 is the correct tire size, and the E38 came with 72mm center hubs, the same as your E28. No hub rings are required.

225/50/16 is the correct tire size, and the E38 came with 72mm center hubs, the same as your E28. No hub rings are required.
What about spacers?

Man you guys pulled this one back from the dead... I had my tires and everything mounted for almost a year now.. This is what I ended up doing...

BF goodrich g-force ss 215/55/16 $380 for all 4 to my door from discount tire direct.

No spacers, No rings, No rolled fender and no rubbing with 4 people in the car.

Have Spax springs and Billy sports

It handles amazing but im in the process of getting some 18's with a stretch.. Keep your eye open , ill post soon :cool:

Just picked up a set of style 5 from a E38 (RZ 469 8J x 16H2 IS23). Time to find some 215/50/16 (or 215/55/16). Or should i run 225/50/16 and risk rubbing?

So someone mention i wont need hub ring since the wheels are from a e38, but what spacers should i get? i was looking into these http://www.autozone.com/autozone/access ... 972862_0_0_

Will i need longer bolts after using the spacer?

Why do you think you need spacers?

And hose are terrible spacers, these are much much much better.

You do not need a hub ring. E38 wheels have the same center bore as E28. Only the E39 (and the E39 based X5) have the larger hub bore.

There are quite a few nice sets in that size! Check tirerack.com. Hankooks v12 have an $80 rebate right now, and I just picked up a set of hankook rs3's for my set.

It has been determined that the BF Goodrich g-Force is a rub-free fit with the 8x16wheels. What's wrong with them? And currently with a $50 rebate. 205s are too narrow for the 8" width, honestly.

As I stated earlier in this thread, I'm running Michelin Pilot Sport A/S in 225/50-16 on these exact wheels. I'm not a huge fan of the tires, but they do work OK, and do not rub. I'm not sure if the Conti Extreme Contact DWS (or DW if you don't need an all season tire) is larger or smaller than the Michelins, but I've heard good things about them.

I was going to go with the Contis, but let myself be talked out of them. That's what I'll put on the next time.

I have the Conti DW's on my 18" style 5's and they have been a great tire. Took them to the track last month and they actually worked really well there too!

The DW is turning out to be THE rain tire for auto-x guys running in street tire classes.
