e28 M5 Caliper rebuild tips & suggestions

Post by M3 Cereal »

I have a 1986 BMW 528e that had both the front and rear brakes replaced

The front brakes are from a 1988 M5 and they have proved to be a headache.

I had service done roughly 2 years ago, they made a new rear driver brake line and then found that the front caliper needed to be replaced, they wanted to replace it with a new one till they realized it's unavailable / would come from a private seller and probably need a rebuild regardless. The shop went ahead and rebuilt the caliper successfully. Recently my passenger front caliper has been sticking on so I would like to have it rebuilt, Ordered the parts and have them in hand, but out of the 5 shops I visited today in SW Florida, no one will touch it, they say I have to pay whatever it cost for a new one. I am interested in others experiences with rebuild kits, and where they had their calipers rebuilt?

If no one will take the car I guess ill be doing this job myself, From researching this job doesn't look all that involved, I just like the idea of a professional working on my brakes

Any suggestions or tips are welcomed
Currently, these are the parts I have, will I need anything else?
Thanks

Well, I've been promoting Caliper HQ in Signal Hill CA but he'll by the time you ship them west, get them rebuilt and sent back it might be a scratch price wise.

Give them a call, I'm just guessing on the cost. Who knows, might be less.

https://caliperhq.com/ talk to Graem or Dan.
