ECU Ticking?
I just got my hand on a 1984 BMW 533i and it had a plethera of electrical issues. I took the ECU apart becasue the previous owner jumped one of the wires. And when taking it apart I found a burnt track on the circut board. I fixed it with copper wire and solder. I pluged it back in and the car runs again with the ECU fully pluged in but now every so often it will begin to tick rapidly and then stop for a bit and then tick rapidly again. It happens along with the speaker going off so I thought it was part of maybe a seat belt warning or a door alarm. But when I close the door the ticking doesnt go away but the speaker turns off. What do you thing it causing this?

Could you post a picture of what you repaired?

You need to have a URL for your photos - then post that between

Re: ECU Ticking?
That is the damage on the board and I bend copper wire and soldered it in and watched multiple YouTube videos about how to do it properly so I feel confident in my work. I found a guy on Facebook market place selling parts for a 533i and I am talking to him about buying his ECU if that's the problem.
But I would like to know before I buy it from him.

Welcome, codybalcomb! I see these are your first posts. Please read and heed the Tech and Forum FAQ sections and post technical questions in Tech Talk, not General Conversation.

That sure looks toasty. Anyone know what that trace does?
Re: ECU Ticking?
The problem is you have to figure out what failed to cause the trace to burn up. It's a symptom, not the cause.
