Max correct 16" wheel offset

Post by gwb72tii »

So, I've looked through all the mye28's links to wheel size info, and frankly find it lacking.
After looking at mostly past comments about 17" vs 16" diameter wheels, I will go with 16" even though it limits me away from a wheel I'd ordinarily want.

My 535is is stock, no rolled fenders, and I'd like to maximize the wheel width. I will use wheel spacers if necessary (within reasonable limits). I will also not use an oversize tire vs the width of the rim as I'm not a fan of the wheel rim sitting outside the width of the tire. No offense to those that like the look, it's just not for me.

So, beyond the standard 16" et20 ( if I remember correctly), how much wheel can I stuff in there?

Or….has tire technology made moot he arguments of 10 years ago about 17” vs 16” rims?

Besides containing a list of known tire sizes, wheels and offsets that are known to work, the wheel and tire tutorial allows you to enter tire and wheel specs to see if an unknown combination will work. viewtopic.php?f=9&t=35751

I will be mounting a set of 16" Rial Mesh wheels on my 528e soon. They're a staggered set. 16X8 and 9. Offsets are et11 for front and back. I bought them off a guy who previously had them on an E28. I'm using 205/55 fronts and 225/50 for the rear. I'll have them on as soon as the weather gets a little better her in NJ.

16x8 et11 will likely rub in the left rear depending on the exact tire width, but will fit without modification. I di this with 225/50/16 tires and standard height springs. If you are lowered or like the wide tire, roll the lip and you are set. The right side doesn't seem to have the same issue.

This is where I'm at with my wheels. I have a staggered set of Rial Mesh sized at 16x8-9 et11. I'm putting 205/55 front and 225/50 rear. Previous owner had them on his E28. I was able to find a pic.

These are the same wheels as above, but I had them refinished. As soon as the weather is a little better here in NJ I'll have the tires mounted and the wheels on. I'm fine with rolling the fenders if I have to. It isn't anything noticeable and have done it on a few of my previous rides.

I'll update this thread with my outcome.
