My car started to make a clunking noise while turning while not in motion. I thought it was the steering box or the box mount, but after having assistant turn wheel, I found the passenger side idle arm connection to the center tie rod was shot. The center tie rod articulated joint was snapping up or down after a certain range and you could see it visible vibrate when applying the steering.
Solution:
Replaced Idling Arm assembly complete with new bushing
New bolts and nuts
New center tie rod
AND had to replace both driver and passenger tie rods also due to the damage from removing the center tie rod from the tie rod separator tool.
- when removing any articulated joints with rubber housing seals, the tie rod separator will tear/puncture the rubber boots due to pressure from the tool separating the connections.
