High beam switch replacement

Post by MIK911 »

Searched this site, and it seems my high beam switch/stalk needs replacement. The high beams intermittently flash ON/OFF for no reason.
What is involved and what's the process to access/change the switch/stalk? Does the steering wheel need to be removed, etc?
Any help appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Hope to see some of you at upcoming SoCal Vintage

This is not intended to be an a-hole answer, but why not simply remove the column cover, see if you can remove it without needing to remove the wheel, then if you need to remove the wheel, remove the wheel? You really don't need to know the answer beforehand.

That being said, you have an earlier column, which allows you to access the switch in-place and spray the internals with contact cleaner without removing anything other than the cover. Just make sure you have some paper towels or rags to catch overspray/drips. I restored function to the switch in my former '86 by doing this.
