Charcoal Canister bypass

Post by heinek077 »

1983 533i, fuel smell at bottom of new/just replaced charcoal canister. Confirmed/Pinpointed source with flammable gas detector.
I would like to bypass the charcoal canister by connecting the charcoal canister intake hose (coming from the expansion tank) to the charcoal canister exit hose (goes to intake line on the fuel tank breather valve).
Anyone see an issue with doing this? Right now I don’t care if it will cause a CEL and for a SMOG it can be reconnected.
I need to get rid of the fuel smell since the vehicle is parked in the garage and the garage quickly smells like gasoline.
