Getrag 265/5 rebuild?
Getrag 265/5 rebuild?
Considering an M30B35 and 265/5 insertion into a (yet to arrive) 518i. Watched a $5.5K usd Fahey rebuilt 265/5 come and go on eBay and am wondering if this is the going rate for such a thing as well as who/where are the reputable places to rebuild one if it came to that. Thanks in advance.

I ran into a similar issue. I just bit the bullet and bought mine from Metric Mechanic and sent them my core. I opted for their "sport" setup and it cost $5000 with the $1500 core charge so really it was ~$3500. Considering that they are really the only game in town (really the country) that has the experience, skill, tools, etc to do it it was a no brainer. I could not find anyone better or cheaper or anyone else that actually knew what they were doing (apparently the G265 is a special snowflake). Someone else might have something different to say so that just my 2 cents.

Thanks for your reply. Are you running the transmission now? If so, how long have you had it installed and are you satisfied with it?

How are they dealing with the NLA Intput Shaft Bearing issue?Mr.3-5-7 wrote: ↑Jun 09, 2021 5:16 PM I ran into a similar issue. Re: Getrag 265/5 rebuild?
I was looking into the NLA input shaft bearing for the 265 OD and I thought I saw that the input shaft bearing for the 265/5 was still available.
I think it may be the same bearing as the 262 4 spd uses , not sure about that though.
I just looked pt no 23121205197 Ball bearing 72X30X19. and it looks like it is used in the 4 spd
Its listed as available on Pelican. https://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ks ... 3121205197

Getrag 262 does use the same bea!eing. I just dropped off 2 g265/6 gearboxes for service locally and am told bearings still available, was also told they rarely fail.

My mistake, overlooked it was a /5 not a /6.

Dave, do you mean the OD ( 265/6) or the CR 265/5 uses the same bearing as the 4 spd? It was my understanding the 265/6 input bearing was in-fact NLA. No?
I also didn't catch the 265/5 CR. I've been told by my rebuilder that the 265/6 (OD) shares the same bearing as the 262, basically it's the same gearbox less the center section. Cases are the same both front and rear, and bearings are still available (not OEM) but I don't yet know where they are, he's keeping that a secret.

Re: Getrag 265/5 rebuild?
Well, that would be promising if it does in fact share the same ISB as a 262; it's likely it's in FAG's catalog somewhere so if you had a cross-reference source for BMW to FAG that would be the way find it.kojo96 wrote: ↑Jun 10, 2021 12:57 PM Dave, do you mean the OD ( 265/6) or the CR 265/5 uses the same bearing as the 4 spd? I know Devinder and Logan have been doing some R&D work on finding a replacement for the NLA 265/6 ISB and may have come across this, but I'm not sure what their progress is with it.
Any information on this would be good to share as I seem to go through 265/6's like Tic-Tacs.
Re: Getrag 265/5 rebuild?
Yeah its all back together and im still DD'ing it. New trans has been in for 2 weeks now and there is a noticeable difference in the shifts and smoothness of....well everything. But maybe thats just my head playing placebo tricks on me.
And im not sure what their exact solution is for the bearing issue, that never came up in our discussions, just that i had bearing noise and they could fix it.
