Center console mystery cable

Post by objectgroup »

Can anyone identify this black cable next to the automatic shifter in my '88 535i? It's blocking my carpet from coming out.

It thicker gauge cable and is part of the harness that goes to the auto trans brain. Guessing it's something aftermarket since every other cable on this harness disconnects via molex. Thought I'd ask before snipping. Sorry for gross pic. Many thanks.

Pulled a bit of the jacket off and turns out it's a sub-harness that goes from the EGS to somewhere inside the trans tunnel. Guessing it goes to the trans? Anyone know if possible to disconnect? Or should I give up and cut a slit down the middle of the carpet?

Do you have the EH switchable auto transmission?

If so then this could be the cable loom (item 4) from the box to the transmission control module.

Thanks Mick, sounds right. Will have to get it off the ground to try to pull that plug.
