Rear track width

Post by retoropak »

Hello,

I am looking for some info on the track width of the different e28 models

I have 524td e28 rear subframe swapped into my e21 and i have some problems fitting wider/lower offset wheels.

I read somewhere that 524td track width was wider than 535/m5 by 20mm.

Do you know where the difference is? Is it the subframe itself or maybe trailing arms or hubs?

I could use narrower rear to be able to fit some e28/e32 15”et20 wheels.

Thanks

I can't say I've ever heard of that before. I just took a gander at realoem and part numbers are the same for subframe/trailing arms/hubs between 535i and 524td models. Doesn't really make any sense they would modify those parts for a diesel car either.

There is this thread and there were another one suggesting the 20mm difference. There was also some old broshure scan but it was blurry so could not tell if it was 10 or 20mm difference.

One more data point is the guy from e21 legion group who has e28 subframe swap and was able to fit 17x9.5” et24 with some tire stretch. I can barely fit 8.5et47 which technically should sit 35mm further in when compared to 9.5et24

Not sure if relevant but I also read that e32 hubs are offset 10mm when compared to e34/e28.

Still looking to confirm where the differences are if any.

One of the e21legion guys measured stock 528i rear end and it came out to be 1450mm hub to hub. I measured my 524td and it is 1465 +/-5mm. I guess 20mm difference is true. Looking at some subframe dimensions it seems that the difference is in the trailing arms and hubs.
