Sustainment: Sources/Solutions for Disappearing/NLA Items

Post by Shawn D. »

Y'all,

Given this thread in General Discussion about the availability (or lack thereof) of Euro parts for us, plus items disappearing, becoming hard-to-find, and/or NLA, this thread is intended to be a clearinghouse for threads about sources/solutions to sustaining our E28s. This is a thread for sustainment of the stock parts and/or capability of our E28s -- it is not a thread for sources of aftermarket/modification parts such as coil-overs, wheel spacers, radios, etc. This is also not a thread for discussion of the subject of the links -- do that in the individual subject threads. As relevant discussions occur, post links to them here. So, let's get started!

TO KEEP THIS THREAD CONCISE & ON-POINT AND NOT GARBAGED-UP WITH IRRELEVANT POSTS:
1) Only post links to threads that are relevant to the criteria noted above. Please post it as linked text so the subject is clear, such as Alternate Sources for Power Mirror Components, not http://www.mye28.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=136119.
2) Only post links to other threads discussing these sustainment items. Do not discuss said items in this thread.
3) Only comment on a link if the subject is not relevant to the criteria noted above, stating the case as to why it should not be in this thread (i.e. the suggested replacement part is harder to find than the E28 part). Counter-points that the subject is relevant are welcome as well, stating the case as to why it should be in this thread. Do not make "+1" or "^^^this!" type of comments.
4) Do not post links to "for sale" threads. Even if the parts in the "for sale" thread are relevant to sustainment, when the parts are sold the link will become irrelevant.
5) Not abiding by the above will lead to posts being deleted and/or the thread being locked.

I've had great success ordering Euro parts from http://www.schmiedmann.com. Shipping was quick and the prices where right. Just don't try to order anything during the month of August.

Ivo (@ovide) can get you anything too. http://www.e28.nl. Just PM him with what you want. He can even get you complete Euro cars.

Oil Pump Shaft for M30

Made right, fits right. Just put one in my M30 12-2015.

Other parts available from same source. (Rocker Arm Positioner Collars for example)

Worth looking at and comparing prices with Schmiedmann:
https://www.wallothnesch.com

WN has some interesting body repair panels and has had some items that are NLA by other sources at the time, but have the few remaining ones (Like new taillights, before they sold the last one).
On occasion, they seem to source a new supplier for parts that have been out of stock for awhile - like rear ventilated discs for the early euro e24's.
Be sure to compare prices though, bought euro headlights globes thru Schmiedmann due to the considerable savings.

Another plug for http://www.schmiedmann.com. They're not quite NLA, but the e brake cables for my E12 are a bit hard to find. Schmiedmann had them, including shipping for a very competitive price. And fast, they said they were out of stock, but 5 days out, I got a phone call from DHL 5 days later asking if someone would be home for a signature on Monday and they showed up today, Friday. Two day shipping from Denmark. Used to be Tischer was about the same on price but their little extra charge at the end just ticked me off. But wow, fast service and good pricing!
