I wonder if anyone can explain the purpose of the protrusion inside the M30 cylinder head intake channel. It starts at the port entrance and goes all the way to the valve guide.
Since it is lined up with the injector and the valve guide, I assume it is related to (better) air flow.
However, I've noticed that in some tuned cylinder heads this protrusion was ground down, as if it would actually limit the flow.

It's a "fairing" for the injector. It's unlikely to hurt flow much, if at all.
