525e from the Netherlands

Post by Kovic »

Hi fellow e28 enthousiasts!

Since early 2020 I own an alpine white e28 525e from march 1986 with 133.000KM. It had some minor damage on the front sides and the hood. Was parked under a carport for some years. Luckily hardly any rust except bottom of B pillar and the usual jacking points and wheel arch under the hood.
I instantly started using the car as a daily driver. So work on the car is in fases.
Work done so far since 2020:
- First thing was timing belt and water pump
- some cooling hoses and fuel lines were leaky, changed
- Radiator leaked, luckily found one in germany.
- Instrument cluster refurbished by a specialist in north of The Netherlands
- Damage "straightened". Front valance was a centimeter off.
- Got me a set of Style 32 wheels
- Coilovers installed
- Suspension refresh at front (control arms, steering rods, idler arm)
- New ATE brake discs and pads
- Wheel bearing left front

Recently the rusty bits were taken care of by a welder. In 10 days the car will go for a paint job. It will be BMW Jet Black 668.
Got new front sides and rear right side door to replace the damaged ones.

To do for 2023:
- Head gasket. Leaks some oil at front exhaust side. Use opportunity to deck head, replace valve guides etc.
- Rear subframe bushings
- Exhaust is falling apart. Replace with Simons. That is only one I can find that is affordable. Any other tips are welcome:)
- And probably some other stuff :)

Wishlist
- Have the standard blue seats. Would love a interior from a 535. Bit sportier. But very expensive here.
- OBC
- 16inch BBS RS211 wheels.

Some pictures. Not chronological;

Just my personal opinion about the color you choose, I have always thought that keeping the original color is important...so white reamain white, red remain red....the plate at the engine bay says the color, the metal id say same thing, every part of the car always remaind you about the color from the factory....for me it is annoying . But of course, it is your car and choice.

I respect your personal opinion. I have a different one. Some love total original look, others slam their cars on the ground, others put in engines from other BMW models and I just want an E28 in a certain color. All those differences to me are interesting and are a part of the succes of a forum/community like this one.
Just don't let other e28's annoy you, enough crap in the world to be annoyed about:)
