That's great, congrats.

Very recently I was surprised to find out a 1976 Triumph TR7 and 1977 BMW 530i (still with its thermal reactors), also passed.

I thought you had a brand new cat for it with just a hundred miles or so on it?

Another bonus of living in the hinterlands of California. No biannual smog test, just on transfer. :D

It's more than a 100 and there's only so much a shitty aftermarket cat can do. My retirement is coming soon so look for me next door to you in the hinterlands. I'll be the neighbor from hell. :D

Thank you so much all. :D

Consequently, It needed a slight adjustment with AFM.

Seventeen repair shops have turned my 533i down since May, which was a frustrating experience.
So there was no way to get away from the issue but DIY.
After having a tormented period of studying, researching, and reasoning, I could understand it.

Thank you all. :D

Wow, 17 shops with no mechanics? Just parts changers?

It's been a while since I lived down in So Cal, but it was the most hands on, we'll work on anything, place I've ever lived. If they're afraid now I can only imagine what other places must be like.

Them and the test centers just want an OBDII car, so they can plug in, put their minds in neutral and collect the cash. Much like the government :)

There was a recent proposed amendment AB 220, that tried to do that just on transfer for 1976-83 cars. It didn't pass, and not likely to with the way things are.

So I went for a nice looong drive to get the cat warmed up and proceeded to the smog place where I pulled up to the dyno and popped the hood.....or did I? The passenger side latch popped but the driver's side is all, "yeah, naa, I'm going to be needing some adjustment before I'M releasing mang". In 16 years of ownership I've had zero issues with the hood latches and it picked TODAY to not open. Not yesterday, not next week, TODAY. AT THE F-ING SMOG PLACE. So I go home and take the grill off and start screwing around with the adjustment. It took just long enough for the smog place to close before I could get there. I hope this isn't an omen.

On a side note, S38 air filters have quadrupled in price since I last bought one. Have a nice day!

And so, it passed CA enhanced smog check inspection. Same station for the last 12 years and tech brought up the "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" issue for the first time. I told him "See you in two years". $78.00 for the test/inspection and $8.00 for the certificate.
