Is there a 5er Fest this year?

Post by gwb72tii »

A question from someone new to this forum. My car should be done by the time of 2021’s meet if it’s the same time this year.

Any clue?

5er Fest died some time ago now. There was a 5er West in the Portland area that ran for a decade or so, but I believe Covid managed to kill it. There had been a very informal event in San Diego that ran for about 20 years, but I believe it's gone also. This past September Eric/Kenny ??? managed to put on a very nice event in Reno, but I haven't heard if he's going to do a repeat this year. Drive 4 Corners did not happen in 2021 but the site says they're hoping for a '22 event. It's open to all BMWs, not just 5s or even centered on 5s and the year I went it was mostly newer cars, E39s were practically the old ones. Still a good event, but a much different flavor than the others.

Unless you can go backwards in time and find a non-existent event, that ain't gonna happen. ;)

It's not really the same, but The Vintage has effectively replaced 5er Fest for the eastern half of the country. It's on 5/21 in Hot Springs, NC.

according to the powers that be, 5erWest didn't happen last year, due to COVID restrictions, that made it virtually impossible to have an outdoor event with all the correct permits, et al. can't see that being any different this year.............. :/

:dunno: Really? Cool, I hope so. If it does happen, I hope it gets posted soon, there's a couple of other places I might work in and reservations get complicated.

Retire? I'm still planning on another Reno event this fall. Last year's was a blast.

I thought the whole reason you were in Reno was because you retired. But no, Renofest was too good an event to be just a one off, you've got to do a repeat performance.

But the eastern half of the country is just tooooooo far for me to travel, so it doesn't hit my radar. Didn't mean to overlook it.

Let's not forget TedFest which after a 10+ year run has faded away too... COVID, boarder retrictions, etc., has at least suspended one of the greatest vintage BMW events, it, like 5erFest was in the early days , a must attend event. Great memories, many great friends found at these gatherings :) Oh, for the good ole days!

We do have The Vintage in Asheville NC in May. https://www.atthevintage.com/
I believe gwb72tii & son drove their 2002 to the event a number of years ago. It's a hike for the west coast people, but a must-do.

To be fair, while COVID may have prevented Ted from holding another event since 2020, the last TedFest was in 2018. TedFests' demise was caused by other forces beyond just the pandemic.

It was one of my bigger car-event regrets not getting to one of these in their hey-day. Maybe Ted will be inspired to organize another one some day soon.

We did make that trip from the Seattle area clear across country and back in the tii. Picked up Blunt along the way. What a great event, and someday I'll make that same journey again.
