Best car cover?

Anyone have an outside car cover that they love for their e28?

My car spends 90% of the time in the garage but there are some times were I have to have it outside for 3-4 days at a time and I'd like to keep it out of the sun and falling tree things.

I have a CoverKing I bought through the Costco website. Fitment is very good, I'm happy with it. It isn't waterproof, which may be an issue for some people.

I've had good luck with California Car Cover in the past. Most outdoor covers are made of "Noah" fabric, so look for that - it breathes but is water resistant (I don't think any cover is 100% waterproof.)

Covercraft Weathershield HD

It might not be the cheapest but it is has proven to last the longest and best in SoCal heat and UV conditions. I have found that it is better to spend the money on a cover that will last versus having to replace cheap ones every few years.
Savvy internet shopping may yield less expensive sellers.

I got whatever Bavarian Auto was selling (Evolution 4). I think it's a Covercraft product. It's about 4 1/2 years now, and it's literally coming apart at the seams. That's it's failure mode.

Vince,

How long have you found that the Weathershield HD lasts? I've been using the "standard" Weathershield (bought through California Car Cover, re-branded as "Superweave") and while it offers great UV protection, I do have to replace it every 2-3 years. That's on a car that sits outside full-time in SoCal sun. If you take advantage of the 4-year warranty, the price you pay for one essentially lasts you 4-6 years including the replacement cover. I paid $375 for my most recent one in September 2019.

Cal Car Cover also has the Weathershield HD (re-branded as "Superweave Premium"); current price for an E28 is $557, with a 6-year warranty.

That said, with the OP living in CT with a car that's garaged most of the time with only occasional outdoor parking, I think he could probably get by just fine with a much-cheaper cover if he doesn't want something so spendy, such as:

I'm still on my first Weathershield HD, now going on over 7 years (I think? it might be longer, I would have to look it up) but it hasn't been in continually use every day. I am actually using it for the E39 now (it's surprising how well an E28 cover fits an E39) and it's getting much more use than it did on the '88 535i I originally bought it for. The M535 is in The Hangar full time so it's not needed for it. It has been holding up very well but I think it is starting to show signs of decomp; it's hard to tell if its just fine dust as it is driven through the weave from moisture and rain or if the material is starting to breakdown.
I would agree that the intense UV protection the HD provides might not be needed for occasional use in CT; there are less expensive options.

They make two versions of the Weathershield: the HP and HD, the HD being the top of the line. I bought mine from an online vendor (CarCoverDirect.com) but they were recently "acquired" by Covercraft, the manufacturer of the Weathershield cover. There may be other vendors out there, just ask the Great God Google.
