I suspect you're right. I was noticing today that the pull distance of my handle seems longer than it used to be. The release point is now right up against the limit of the handle's range. In fact sometimes -- like when it's cold -- the release point is slightly beyond the handle's range and I really have to pull it hard too eek out that last bit of tension to get it to pop loose. I know this has to be straining the handle beyond what it was designed for.
