Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
If someone is looking into getting their steering wheel covered, Chris Scow was awesome. Wheel looks great, he was nice to work with and fast.
The cost was 200, which included making the wheel thicker.

What is the digital display where the econometer would be? And the toggle switch were the fog push buttons should be?
Re: Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
The gauges are oil pressure, water temp where the auto lights were there is a voltage display too, Bavarian Restoration did them.i still need to finish the oil pressure gauge.Dave_in_VA wrote:What is the digital display where the econometer would be? As for the switch it's the fog lights, my guess is it's early vs late e28.

That wheel looks great, how does it feel? Almost looks like it might be too thick, but hard to tell from a pic.
Re: Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
Mike,
I never really noticed it until you asked. It maybe a little thick. It's about the same as my Ram, so I think it feels normal to me.

That looks seriously awesome, and I bet it feels amazing. Nice upgrade!
(yes, I know i'm missing the plastic cap)
I've got the same "early" fog switch in my car. Here is a close-up.Dave_in_VA wrote:And the toggle switch were the fog push buttons should be?

Great, so instead of not being able to see how fast I am going between 40-100mph, now I won't be able to tell between 30-110mph.Mike W. wrote:Almost looks like it might be too thick, but hard to tell from a pic.
Nice to see someone does this though.

Re: Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
Chris is a true craftsmen, if you like the steering wheel you should see what he can do with a shift knob! Had him recover two mushroom type knobs (tall and short) look and feel like OE new. Had him recover the orignal knob in my M535i which I thought was a total loss. I have had it in the car and using it 2 years now, still looks like the day I got it back from him. He's a huge twin turbo 300z fan (90-95' not sure of the body code), showed me pictures of what he did with the interior before and after. He has talent, and is not just limited to steering wheels and shift knobs. For the work he did for me, I thought he prices himself too low. Told him so and replied "I comfortable with the prices I charge", that was a while ago hopefully he has the same attitude. Will have to contact him about doing a leather dash.

Thanks for the reference. I need a wheel re-done on my Towncar. Currently both it and I have a bald spot at the top, but the one on the car is easier to sort out. I have a spare wheel for it too so at least when I send it, I'm not stuck with an un-movable hulk in my garage.

Here is a picture with better lighting
Chris talked me through some things I thought I wanted on the wheel and said he would do whatever I wanted. I appreciate how honest he was. He could have made more money off me going all perforated leather but discouraged me doing so.

That sure is purty!
Re: Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
That looks quite plush and too nice for these hands.
Re: Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
Do you know if he can replace or refurb the little M-doodads?
Re: Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
The 3 color badge on the spoke? It's a separate part if that's what your talking about
Re: Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
He does nice work.
Re: Steering wheel refurb: Chris Scow is awesome
Yup, I know. I have a slightly different wheel, and my M-doohicky is besmirched. I guess I was hoping Chris might be a source to get that fixed or replaced.BimmerDan wrote:The 3 color badge on the spoke? It's a separate part if that's what your talking about

I wonder if they are the same size as the one on the style 66 wheels. I have a set somewhere I can measure it if you want.jhh925 wrote:Yup, I know. Very nice. Looks pretty tight, and actually prefer the thicker wheel meself.
But the stitching, that's the kicker. Checking out his site, looks like a great source. Thanks for sharing.
