It's OK when open and not noisy when closed. It does sit low by 2-2.5 mm at the front, so the deflector gets jammed on the arms when closing. Had to replace the original deflector which had a cracked and a broken arm.

The rear flips up and down fine.

Ok just making sure it is interference. Sometimes stuff like this can be fixed by adjusting the clutch on the motor (tightening the big nut).

The passenger side front hex bolt was loose, adjusted the height and tightened it. Now the wind deflector closes properly with the roof. Talked with Steve at VSR and he advised how to reseat the headliner because I was having one heck of a time and kept coming up 1/4inch short on the front clips.

Super irritating, huh? I must have spent 2 hrs on one once. Most of the time no problem.

Yeah, best thing to do is put the roof in vent position and manually work the rear clips onto the pins. It can be pretty frustrating. Hard work to explain but once you have done it enough, it just sorta happens.

Yes, that’s the same advice Steve at VSR gave me.

Finally had the time today to get the sunroof headliner reseated in the rear pins and front clips. Also replaced the the driverside door mirror. So my real vintage prep is done. Even have a full tank of fuel.

On the way to The Vintage May 15th, outside Allentown PA the CHECK light came on as well as the Oil Level light. Immediately pulled over, and sure enough needed took nearly 4 quarts. Continued to the next exit and found a considerable oil drip from the left side of the engine. Called VSR and discussed the issue. Decided best case scenario was to drive to Daniel's BMW 4.3 miles away. Ordered an Oil Pressure/Sender switch and left the M5 at the dealership. Plan to pick the car up Monday the 20th on the way home. Fingers crossed & pretty bummed this happened.

Continued on as a passenger in a friend's car.

That’s a shame Andrew. I’m 20 minutes away and have oil pressure sensors in stock, VDO or factory. And beer. And only charge 1/257 of the dealer. Or VSR for that matter :-P. Let me know if I can help.

If I had only known you were so close! That would have been the absolute best case scenario.

The car has been repaired. The bill was $185.14, which seemed like a bargain to me. Had a good run from Allentown PA to home, car ran flawlessly.

At The Vintage in Asheville/Hot Springs, I enjoyed being a passenger in my friend's BMWs, excellent conversations and great music.

Could have been much worse. Glad it's sorted and you had a great trip the rest of the way! Was really disappointed I didn't get to see this one.

Drove the M5 to VSR for a suspension update, alignment and valve adjustment Most likely new springs, currently has Eibachs. The current Bilsteins are shot and will most likely go with Bilstein B12 Sports & new Eibachs. https://www.bilstein.com/us/en/product/ ... sportline/

Wow if the B12 setup is available for E28, that’s great. Eibach doesn’t offer their own springs anymore.

I just put Eibach Pros and Billie B8s in my M5 an' comeafindout, they ain't that well suited to each other. I don't hate the ride, but it's pretty uninspired and I have more confidence in myself than I do in the suspension backing up my abilities, which is not a good thing. Interested to hear what you think about the new compared to the old Eibachs. Mine were NIB but perhaps they offered a different spring rate in years past?? I've never seen B12s on an E28 in the wild before, also would like to find out more about that.

B12 package is not available on the E28 chassis.
Suspension will be Bilstein B8s with a 5 ride height grooves in the back and springs from England.

The Bilstein B8s and new springs from England have transformed the car so it feels like it's made out of one piece. Stance is the same as it was before.

The M5 is now planted and simply amazing with the new suspension. Also fit a Cantaloupe Bluetooth receiver in the period correct radio it's brilliant! Next big project is convert the A/C, what is it? 134A from R12 when it no longer blows cold, maybe next year.

A/C gave out Monday July 29th at 3:30pm it was 90° F and wickedly humid up here in the perpetual Winterlands of Maine. Car is scheduled for the conversion to 134A in a few days.

Spoke with VSR, sees a lot of M5 air conditioning parts are NLA. So there is some custom fabrication taking place.
