We lost our internet service for a day and a half. No land line, no cable TV, no emails. We went to the Twilight Zone. I heard Rod Serling's voice. I crawled into my truck (manual windows, manual transmission, manual door locks, manual HVAC) and slept.

I read that the CalTech Robotics Lab has launched its' Autonomous Research Facility. One of the things they're working on is a bi-pedal unit (Cassie) hat they plan testing by having it walk the entire Pacific Coast Trail. They said it will have its' own robotic entourage as support (i.e. flying drones); all being controlled by the bi-ped unit flying as look-outs and mapping agents.
It's all in preparation to drop it on Mars and other moons; at least that's their story and they're sticking to it.

Now they're just showing off.

I came here looking for this thread to post the same video. You beat me to it.

Yeah, no shit. Watching it a bit I think I'm more impressed with the programming that must have to go into it than the mechanics of it.

I was worried before. Now, I'm just fucking scared shitless.

I'm also kinda excited to see how this all turns out for us.

Never gave it a thought before that a doorknob would be more robot proof than a lever. Of course at the rate they're progressing it's probably only a matter of time anyway.

I'll start to worry when they're able to improvise and figure out how to overcome obstacles without having to bring in a buddy with an extra limb.

That's impressive. Growing up, my lab could open our screen doors - the ones with push-lever latches that opened outwards. Manipulating a round knob with a tool!?!?! Wow.

The recent ski-robot-challenge was pretty funny.

Big deal. I won't be scared until they come up with a robotic cat that coughs up furballs.

Working for good instead of evil (at least that's what they want us to believe).

Anyone watch the Black Mirror episode, Metalhead on Netflix?
I just did; not encouraging. At. All.

Best that we wipe them out before they’re smart enough to do the same to us.

The movements are getting so fluid I'm expecting one to lift a leg and let go.

Hmmm, so if a robot dog could piss, what would it piss? :dunno:

Spot mini due to go on sale next year.
Boston Dynamics' robots keep getting smarter -- and soon they'll be available for purchase.

At a TechCrunch robotics event on Friday, Boston Dynamics founder Marc Raibert announced its robotic dog SpotMini is currently in "pre-production." The company will start selling the robots in 2019.

It's unclear who will be able to buy them, and the cost has not yet been revealed.
