I agree; never understood why some people do that. I'd remove the window tint too. If you're in the M5 market it'd be worth looking into.

BTW, I find painted pin-stripes actually easier to remove than the tape ones. Had to take the tape off my '85 535i and painted "M" off my '87 535is. One swipe with lacquer thinner on a rag versus hours of heat gun and 3M Adhesive Remover. There is no comparison—unless some body shop cleared over the painted (or tape!!) ones.

The only thing that is questionable about this car are the wheels, and they can be changed easily.

Yeah, I didn't get the people hating on this car so badly (on BAT) because of the wheels. I agree that I don't think they suit it in black and they should be changed, but it's a very easy fix. Otherwise, the car looks pretty nice, seems pretty clean.

With the risk of showing my ignorance

Why does the car have a 535is front spoiler?

Spoilers are identical between the two, front and rear.

US spec M5's all had the same front spoiler as 535is, which doesn't fit the euro valance.

I’m obviously new to e28’s

I owned a 1983 528e back in the late 80’s but at that time I was into e10’s

Not mine, no affiliation, etc... Very early US spec E28, I'm guessing Euro delivery or a military member ordered this while stationed there and brought it back. Car looks original and unmolested to include the the 85 MPH speedo and 14" BBS alloy wheels that were unique to 82 E28's (and some E24's from what I've been told). https://tucson.craigslist.org/cto/d/tuc ... 35175.html

The tachometer 4.5K rev limit would indicate that this is an Eta.

This is reinforced by the VIN when run through Real OEM: 7954051 comes back as a US market 528ea with a June 1982 build date.

Best regards,

Mick

I thought was a given that it's an eta E28. 83 was the first year that the M30 (533i) was introduced in a E28 for the US market. 82 was unique that BMWNA only sold four models in the US market that year, 320i, 528e, 633csi, and 733i. No wonder gray market cars started rising in popularity during this time frame.

Well, the CL ad did say 528, but then it also said "FWD".

Appears to be Sapphire Blue, which if I'm not mistaken was available only for two years. Great color. Those BBS wheels are great and very light. They're a 1/2 wider than the bottlecaps. The seats do look a little weird to me, appears to have been reupholstered. They even look like E12 style seats...
