Updated for BAT Link
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1980-bmw-528i-17/
Looking to sell my E12, I purchased back in early 2018 and when I got the car did a thorough mechanical sorting baselining on suspension and key systems. Great looking and smooth driving car. Certainly not a show car garage queen but quite usable and presentable as is, with opportunity to improve.
Rust free E12 with some great parts (M535 air dam and M1 (or M535 steering wheel).

Condition Overview
Exterior- Driver quality and a 20 footer for sure, a mix of original paint and touch ups. Some scratches, chips. Wear etc Front air dam paint and install is amateur quality. Would benefit from a good single stage paint correction /detail. I have not found any real rust on the car, it presents as a car that has never seen salt and lived in a dry climate,
Interior:
Front Driver seat has some seam separations and horsehair padding has deteriorated, its still presentable and comfortable. New Coco mats look and fit great, Dash is really nice with minor cracking starting around seat belt warning binnacle, windows and sunroof work well, complete toolkit.
Mechanical:
Runs great, well-tuned and great sounding M30that has a good idle and nice turbine smooth pull to redline. B&B exhaust sounds really nice without being overwhelming and is drone free.
Has been reliable, recent mechanical sorting and suspension refresh has been done so you can focus on driving while you sort out other items. Transmission is quiet and shifts smooth with tight Autosolutions short shifter, clutch engages as it should. M30 is very smooth and quiet. All instrumentation functions including odometer. Steering and suspension is smooth and tight (for an e12) no shimmy’s or steering slop etc)
Known issues
40+ year old unrestored BMW (Caveat emptor)
AC Inop- has all parts installed including belt and still set up for R12
Long crank on warm restart, suspect fuel injector(s) leaking down. Runs awesome otherwise
Front brakes while new, do squeak occasionally on light pedal application
Seeping/ oil leaks from the engine. I have replaced valve cover gasket, oil sending unit and duck gasket. Could use a preventative full reseal for the OCD types
Heater blower and heat does function; however the blower control knob needs to be removed and cleaned as the contacts are gummed up causing fan to operate intermittently
Has been garaged 100% during my stewardship, AND I recommend cleaning/checking sunroof drains etc before leaving parked in the rain

Re: E12 For Sale in NC 1980 528i 5 speed Euro Converted
As it happens, I find myself in the Queen City spending Thanksgiving with family when I ran into your post. Would love to be able to look at your car, but there's too much going on around me (as it happens in these occasions, I'd imagine the same goes for you), and I'm not a potential buyer anyway. The E12 is such a beautiful car, your upgrades appear very well thought out, and the description appears honest and promising. Best of luck!

Great car and presentation. The M1 wheel is a slightly smaller diameter than the E12 M535i version, otherwise they appear identical.
Good luck with the sale!

Agree 1000%. Someone snap this up...it's only going to increase in value.
p.s.: Great pics from my old long time living city. Was trying to figure out if I recognized some of the locations....nice neighborhood with the lake.
