Kinda sorta half-assed looking for another 528e

Post by turbodan »

If you are within a few hundred miles of Albuquerque and you have a running, decent example you could part with, I'm in the market. Cosmetics, as always, not particularly important. A decent interior would be preferred, but I don't care about the paint. I do like a straight body with no rust.

Probably the same thing I did with the last one. Maybe one of the smaller turbo variants. The 35R was fun but hard to control in lower gears. It was running a 13.0 1/4 mile with the GT2871R. Should have been high 12's but I never did manage a really clean run at the strip.

I see one in Utah for $600. That's my kind of price range. Surely there is a POS beater closer than that.

I've also got a 1977 RD400 here I would be happy to trade for an e28 of similar value. Pretty nice bike but I've got this terrible habit of buying too many bikes. I have five bikes and no car. In a pinch I can drive one of the wife's X3's but then I'm subjecting the garage queen to desecration of commuting.

Plz help.

Never imagined I would see the day when a guy couldn't get a beater 528e with a ton of miles on it for 3000 bucks.

Still looking, would be happy to spend three or four thousand bucks. Maybe even five. Might even ship one in from out of state for a good price on the right car.

DayUm!!!

Wish I had a 528e in the yard.
A 533 or 535 @ scrapyard pricing won't work, huh?

I can't say no to a big six. I like the M20 but these days a guy can't be picky.

Do you by chance happen to have a 533 or 535 in need of a new home?

Indeed it has. Its looking like a GT3071R on a 524td manifold. This time I picked up a US spec manifold with the provisions for a wastegate. Internally it is much more suitable than the euro spec manifold I used last time. Won't need to grind a bunch of metal out of it to flow, it looks good right out of the box.

The car seems solid as far as the engine and driveline. Lot of little pain in the ass problems but I'm getting after it. Overall it's still a nicer example than the last two I had. I'm enjoying it, even stock. Fun to drive. If it were nicer I probably wouldn't boost it at all.

I haven't started anything official yet. I have a bad habit of completing projects like this without taking any time to document the process.

What do you want for the RD? Wish I had seen this sooner, I would've gladly traded my '87 ETA for it.

I paid $4900 and put a few hundred into it. Was asking $6000 but I'm not here trying to make money.

Rode it to work today. Its a fun bike. PM me your email and I'll send some pics.
