Looking to pick up my first E28, either an M5 or M535i. Ideally looking for a clean, running car but also open to taking on projects as long as it has good bones.
Budget is around $30-35k for a sorted specimen.
Located in Denver but can travel/transport if needed.

Still on the hunt
Re: WTB E28 M5 or M535i
Only posting to help you better align your budget with current market realities.
I don't see any E28 M5's going for anything close to $20k these days, unless its rusty, not-running, a complete project, etc. And the time for those kinds of cars was around ten years ago. I would imagine M535's are in the same situation, namely because they're far rarer in the US. Anyone foolish enough to part with an E28 M5 for $20k simply isn't aware of current values or being nice (or you got extremely lucky, like once-in-a-lifetime lucky).
If you're genuine about your E28 desire, then a solid daily-driver/cross-country capable and fully-sorted 535is with very few flaws is going to be more realistic for your budget. Might as well take a nice 535i or 535is before those values continue to go up. Once you have the car then you can always work on making it better, faster, etc.

All good, I appreciate the insight! I don't mind spending more for a well sorted car. I'll update my post.DFWTX85 wrote: ↑May 20, 2021 7:56 PM Only posting to help you better align your budget with current market realities.

So this one went for $31k two weeks ago, just to give you an idea of what to expect. You might want to better define what "well-sorted" means to you. These are such rare cars so if you really want one you're going to need to setup some searches to email you when something comes-up.

There was a guy in Boulder who had his M535i on Bat a few months ago. Was RNM.

Still looking
Re: WTB E28 M5 or M535i
I know of a pretty damn well sorted M5 available in the Sacramento area.
Re: WTB E28 M5 or M535i
I have one that I would consider selling but it's relatively low mileage (112k), black on black (US) and full Euro converted so it's going to be considerably more than your budget. East Coast. If interested PM me.
