I have a 1985 e23 735i euro spec automatic with a German dash and high compression m30 that threw a rod. Trying to determine if I should try to fix it with another motor or part out or just try to return it to the junk yard. Located in Eugene Oregon. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions.

I'd hate to tell someone how to spend their time and energies but from the few pictures (kinda dark) it looks to be in good shape. Although there is value in the parts (which harvesting will take time), I would consider swapping engines with a 5 speed at the same time. I am sure you will get a variety of opinions but it would be hard to watch a clean specimen get disassembled (provided there is no rust and body damage).

If you decided to part it out or do the motor and trans swap. I would be interested in the ECU for the High Comp motor and possibly the cam.

What price could you consider?

I'm in the area. What would you take for the entire car?

A US spec m30b34 is going in it currently. Once the project is done I’ll update the thread about sale info.

The old euro spec motor is still available, it just has a giant hole in the cylinder.

I've got an s54 that i had considered dropping into this. Sounded like fun but I've actually had second thoughts now.

Good luck!

Putting in a US spec motor would be the last thing I'd do. Yes you could resell if desired but it would be at a reduced value.
