*** SOLD ***

BMW E28
1988 528e (E to i)
VIN WBADK7302J9830540 (prod date 03/87)
5 speed manual
Schwarz black original paint
Odometer reads 173K, but true mileage unknown
3.25 Diff, Non LSD
All power windows work
Power sunroof works
Tach and Speedo work
Cruise works
On Board computer works
Heater/blower works
Deleted AC (will include compressor and lines)
Front power comfort vinyl seats
Rear leather seats
Full size good spare on TRX wheel
Larger tool kit holder in trunk
Decent head unit (Kenwood)
Dash has cracks (I have an ugly cover for it, if wanted)
Headliner has two tears
Daily driver condition, but for no AC

Georgia car it’s entire life until this year.
Fair to say it’s a 99% rust-free car, but for a couple minor spots.
Runs/drives excellent.
Handles excellent.
It appears that the trans was replaced in 2017 with a used unit.
All panels have matching VIN except the trunk lid, swapped for a non-spoiler lid (Schwarz black).
Lighter carpet from an earlier E28.
Extremely light and effective new sound deadening (Reflectix).
ODO reads 173K but TMU, last recorded mileage was 232K in 2011 according to title record.
All recent work completed between March and August of this year.
Many new parts, and new/used parts just put on, can provide complete list to potential buyers.
Highlights :
E to i swap, of course
New Lemforder thrust arms,
New lower arms, steering links, dogbones, front wheel bearings, rebuilt rear half shafts.
New Bilstein sport shocks with all new mounts and rubber isolators.
H & R lowering springs.
New fuel tank, recent.
BMW OEM style 9 wheels (run true with no vibe whatsoever).

About E to i Swap :
This is a genuine 528 super E with a production date of March 1987.
Runs/drives excellent, noticeably more power than the ETA, close to m30 power but with a lighter nose.
Same grunt down low with more power in the mid to upper rev range now, increased red line.
Handles absolutely excellent, probably a bit better than the average e28.
Rebuilt head from a 91 325i.
Swap done with all correct BMW parts Including 173 ECU.
New timing belt and water pump at time of swap.
New gaskets, new head bolts.
Rebuilt injectors, New fuel filter.
Good condition used Bosal muffler.
Engine was removed to check clutch/flywheel and to check/clean oil pump and do the oil pan gasket.
New engine mounts.
New flywheel bolts upon re-install.
New crank position sensor.
New pilot bearing.
There’s more little stuff..

Parts in hand :
Euro front chrome bumper, fair to decent shape.
Euro front signal lights.
Light single mass flywheel from an 82 528e (it’s just been professionally re-surfaced).
7 series thrust arm HD bushings that have been milled to fit E28 arm/rod.
New trunk seal.
4 different sets of wheels.
Radiator (hard to find for e28 M20 cars now, this is a known good leak free unit).
Center support bearing new.
Guibo.
Aftermarket fog lights.
Antenna.
Engine accessories, ac comp., power steer pump., alt.
Spare seats, one front, and back both upper and lower piece.
Extra 325i headers.
Spare seat motors.
Spare thrust arms, nearly new.
D.S. Headlight housing, with spare working headlights.
2 spare eta ECU’s.
New-ish water pump.
And more odds and ends..

Flaws, and things yet to be done :
Odometer needs fixed, I put in new gears to no success, all else on cluster works.
New trunk seal needs to be installed, would be smart to address trunk surface rust soon to avoid creep.
Power steer pump leaks. (2 months passed before needing top up, I have a spare pump).
D.S. seat power recline does not work, it’s so you can adjust manually through seatback -
Various trim pieces have flaws throughout the car, nothing crazy bad, pretty darn good for an ’88.
Windshield wiper hose disconnected from spray nozzle (need to remove hood liner for access).
Very minor surface rust to speak of :
Trunk seal is bad and some moisture got in there causing some rust/surface rust in trunk (have new seal).
Minor surface rust on the driver door sill by the mirror, two tiny spots.
One rear door has some at corner of lower edge.
There was corrosion in battery tray, I had a plate welded in, but it could be made better.
Small dings/dents/scratches/chips throughout, there are quite a few but nothing horrible -
Paint needs attention, but shines nice as it is, or buff it out and keep it soulful.
The takeaway : two biggest flaws on the car are the condition of the trunk, which isn’t that bad really, and the various cosmetic blemishes in the form of dents dings scratches and chips.
I have the interior rear door handles and they will be going on this weekend.

Excellent, sincerely excellent, daily driver E28
Car is in Muncie, Indiana.
Clean and clear title in my name
6500 OBO
My asking price will take the car and all extra parts and wheels.
Can work with buyer to arrange shipping.

This won't last long before it's sold. Someone is getting a steal and a half. Hope someone here on the forum gets it.

This is a fine car that you've done a great job loving. Etas are the best.

I also want to give you props (and some crap) for your ad. You ALMOST nailed it. Great details and pics.

However, this type of commentary is not helpful, and will do no you no favors with buyers:
Runs/drives excellent, noticeably more power than the ETA, close to m30 power but with a lighter nose.
Handles absolutely excellent, probably a bit better than the average e28.
Regardless, your build thread here shows you have given this car serious love and I think you've priced it about right. GLWS!

I know, I cringed when I first posted and had a few lines in there that didn't feel right.
It's hard to keep emotion/opinion out of something with so much sweat in it - I tried for a sliver of humor with those lines, but maybe fell short? Maybe not? The statements felt true, in my experience, and felt funny too. I dunno, I have a hard time untangling truth and comedy.

But really, thank you, high praise indeed, coming from you - I loved reading the threads on all 3 of your e28's, it's no lie that you inspired me in my attempt.

I have met the seller and I would buy this car with complete trust in what he told me about the car.

Good luck with the sell. The buyer is getting a great car.

Hey, thanks Andy!
Likewise, anything one would buy from Andy comes with an honest description, not to mention a good price!
It's turning into a regular love fest here.
What better way to close out a for sale thread - I had an excellent experience selling the car. Everybody who asked about it or made an offer was very respectful. It went to a good home, I don't think the person who bought the car is a forum member, but I will direct that person here for guidance. Stellar forum here, everybody who keeps it going this way should be proud.
