FS (CT): 1984 528e2i $2200 Sold!

Post by blight »

Hi guys,

I'm putting out a feeler for my 1984 528e2i project, which I've had for around 5 years. I bought the car from another forum member in massachusetts, bone stock with ~99k miles. Currently it has nearly 118k miles. It is opalgrun, which I have yet to see another of on the road. Originally it came with an open 2.93 differential, which I have since replaced with a medium case 3.25LSD from another forum member in florida (had 140k). There are no issues with the clutches it has good lockup. Currently I am running the 15inch wheels from an e34 with tires that have plenty of life left.

The engine was originally an eta m20b27 with the 200 head, however I have converted the engine to have the top end from a euro 323i. For those of you who don't know, the euro 323i had the 731 head & intake with the same size valves but larger intake ports and a 7 bearing cam that is hotter than what comes in even in the 325i head. This is the correct head for an e2i swap because the chambers in the head match the flat top piston shape and maintain the 9:1 compression ratio while allowing the engine to rev out to 6.5k. To deal with this substantial change in performance, I built a megasquirt II unit and wired it into the existing harness w/ a wideband O2 sensor. The car is running custom fuel injection with the stock low-z eta injectors (which flow more than the 325i injectors) and 2.5bar FPR. For more questions about what work has been done to accommodate the engine changes, feel free to ask.

Some pros and cons I can think of off the top of my head:
-e2i swap
-wideband 02
-megasquirt unit
-low miles
-e34 wheels
-3.25 lsd
-crack free dashboard
-full trunk toolkit
-rare paint color in relatively good shape
-very little rust
-flash based inspection light system (vs. ones where battery destroys the board in the cluster). These are around $150 IIRC.
-power flex subframe bushings. (I have replacement stock bushings, if you want to install them)
-new sway links
-new clutch slave cylinder
-always well maintained, new timing belt, water pump, etc/ within the last 2 years/5k miles.
-many other miscellaneous spare parts.
-new battery within last 2 years

Cons:
-battery drain (simply needs a voltmeter to check out)
-Needs a new section of exhaust between the downpipe and mid pipe after the cat. (rear section + muffler are new, but cat is rotted)
-slow rear main seal engine oil leak

I am putting this out as a feeler to see if anyone is interested because I have lot of sentimental value in this car. Like many of us I have put a lot of time and money into this car, but I will be changing locations in the next 6 months and it is time to pass her on to someone who can enjoy her. If there is more interested I'd be happy to add pictures and such as time allows, but for now feel free to ask me more questions either by responding to this forum or PMing me directly.

I'd be very interested...if I hadn't just bought a house and CT was at all closer to WA, so I'm just here for the eye-candy. Any chance of some pics?

Hey guys, sorry I didn't get a chance to take pictures of the car this weekend. I ran into a bunch of things around the house, and it was snowing out here so I didn't have much of an opportunity to clean the car up. I did take a couple of pictures in the evening light as a teaser; though the car hasn't been cleaned up and the light is pretty low. I'll post those in a few minutes...just got paged into work. I will be busy the rest of the week, so I'm hoping to get something more for ya'll by this weekend. Thanks for your patience.

Hey guys,

I've decided I officially do want to sell the car. A few of you have sent me PM's with offers, and I have responded to you all. Based on the responses I've been getting, I hope to have the car sold within the next few weeks.

Hi guys,

Thanks for playing. Ultimately I went with someone local who had cash in hand. I am heading out to Colorado in a few weeks, and I'm glad she could go to a good home.
