FS: 1985 535 5-speed -"UPDATE"-SOLD

Post by JBort »

SOLD!!!

1985 BMW 535i 5-speed
340k miles on odometer
$5500/offer

:D Just passed California SMOG testing (easily)! Registered in CA until 12/21, smog good to 12/22! :D

:D Rust-free CA car since new-I am the second owner. Always in Sacramento (no coastal rust). :D

:D New Alpine CDA-105 reciever w/USB input :D

:D New (12/20) battery :D

I bought this ’85 535 from the original owner many years ago. I call it “The Blau” or “The Rat Rod”. It’s all about fun and performance. It’s probably too stiff to be a daily driver. But get it on the back roads and the fun is outstanding. The paint is oxidized and peeling, so you don’t need to baby this one!

With a [spare] computer swap, it passes California Smog Test and Inspection. The catalytic converter is from a ’88 535is and works fine, The rear muffler was recently replaced with a new Boysen.
Of course, I will smog/register for a CA buyer! (Includes both “smog ECU and D’Silva-chipped ECU).

The Mods:
Engine/drivetrain:
Later engine replaced the original (rod thru the block-thanks “Smog Tech”)
Components replaced as needed (waterpump, alternator, drive belts, etc.)
Oil and filter replaced every 3-4K miles with castroil 20W-50
Transmission was replaced with a later 5-speed overdrive (from the ’88 535is)
Driveshaft replaced with rebuilt part with lube fittings.
Differential is a 3.45 LSD
Half shaft axles were replaced with rebuilt units.
Has lightened M5 flywheel, M5 clutch and pressure plate. All clutch hydraulics were replaced.
Shift linkage is all Delrin-bushings and Z3 short shifter. Tightest I’ve felt!
Larger injectors replaced the stock ones.
E34 covers for the distributor cap and air flow meter
E34 coil
D’Sylvia chip for max torque
Has the “ultra desirable red fan”. 
Interior:
Blue leather sport seats with electric switches
Blue euro rear head rests
Dome light bulbs replaced with LED
Upper check panel is the UK version: “Dipped Beam” for “Low Beam Headlights”
Aux.VDO Gauges (volts/oil pressure) replace the ash tray
BMW blue coin trays in door and center console
Genuine Alpina steering wheel and dead pedal
Hard wired for escort/passport/V1
Functioning upper dash vent.
Saab moonroof, installed by JBort
Stereo head unit is an Alpine AM/FM/CD
Speakers are Blaupunct/alpine in BMW plates
Has TWO “Coustic Bass-Pumps” mounted in trunk; blows thru rear deck; dedicated Orion amp.
Crime-guards alarm/remote door opener
A/C is complete but does not work and it will take some work to make it function. All components are there. Suspect a leaking evaporator.
Miscl:
Wheels are 17” “M-System nekkid throwing stars”
Tires are Falken 225-50’s Azenis (rear lips rolled/cut-they do not touch)
Brakes-Front: 750 rotors/calipers with Porterfield street pads
-Rear: 540 vented rotors/calipers with Porterfield pads
Strut braces front and rear
All steering/suspension components replaced several years ago
Springs are H&R coils
Sway bars are Koni,
Shocks/struts are Koni adjustables
M5 front sway mounts
Euro headlights with upgraded bulbs, city lights
Complete tool kit in black M5 tool tray
BMW under-pan protection grate
Monowiper: Designed using a genuine Hartge conversion kit. Uses a single 24” blade and gives full 270 degree sweep. Parks down, but can be made to park vertical.

Doesn’t get used much; the occasional fun drive. Must sell to help finance other projects.

See the pictures; ask any questions.
