This report was created by Brad (BNC at MyE28.com) on the condition of a BMW E28 535i, who examined the vehicle sometime in 2004. The report is valuable in terms of pointing out what should be looked at when evaluating an E28 BMW for purchase, or simply to document the condition of your own E28. Rod Paine Rod's BMW 528e web site at: http://tinyurl.com/dosn7 ________________________________________________________________________ I made the 2.5hr trip down to Locust,NC, it was a pretty nice day and pretty good trip really, finally found the place, well Matt came out an met me at the road, the street sign had been knocked down so finding his road was a bit harder but I got there anyway...... The Car is..... really, really nice. Over All: Like a time warp actually, a bone stocker but WELL maintained. Car is tight, doors are tight, hood and trunk all very nice. The Car has the 265 5 speed, not dogleg 262 but the regular 265. The Car has a 3.73LSD and as you know the 10-1 motor. Couldn't find the L on the block, but that is hard to see anyway without scubbing it, couldn't get to the engine VIN, but I am taking it as factfrom the regular VIN and the owner swears it is, he IS a young BMW tech and also by my butt-o-meter, it does pull a bit harder than my green motor and reminds me alot of driving Dukes car. Car pulls hard to red line, no noises inside or out, no vibrations, no shimmies. Ran it hard up to 70mph then got on the brakes very hard, braked nicely and no shimmy as I said before. Stock but nice. Car is still on the original clutch and suspension, suspension felt good for a stock suspension, clutch is very light, I have a heavier clutch (M5) in my car and this one was very light. Since I am used to my clutch,I really couldn't give an Honest opinion on how it felt but first impression is it is not slipping now but may or may not need replacing in the next year. Shifter seems ok, I have a SS so felt like it was sloppy but I can't give an honest on that one because all my cars have SS...sorry Exhaust is stock and in good condition even the chrome twins tips still look good. It has a set of good condition, non staggered Alpinas (8" or 7.5), 205's up front and 225's in the rear, I think they were 16". about 50% tread I guess, didn't measure them but just guessing.... Interior is very, very clean.Pearl Beige. Seats are in great shape, bolsters in excellent shape only fault with front seats is where when the bottom cushion gets flattened sometimes the leather will fold, both have this but easy fix with new bottom cushion, no cracks though...non power sports and the frames are still tight, no rocking.....rear seats excellent even the tops where the stitching starts to seperate are in good shape. One carpet stain as mentioned. Matts are good too. All Belts present and in correct position. Do not remember seeing any Headliner staining??? Euro cluster with US speedo in Excellent shape, euro check console.OBC new looking as well. Interior, including headliner in really really good shape as well as the visors, no tears. Only thing I would replace is the shift boot, just looks worn compared to the rest of the interior. Too much Armorall on the Dash but besides that crack free, euro top vent on dash, sunroof slider is good shape too. All rubber wipes, seals and trims (inner fuzzies) in very good condition. All Sill Plates are like new. Whole F*cking car is like new, oops sorry.....love ya... Clarion Headunit with small amp mounted behind rear seats, nice and tidy.BMW upgraded rears. Trunk shows no signs of water damage, would like to check that again but the bottom of the trunk looked new. Jack-set present with warning triangle, did not have correct bracket for mounting the triangle, but they had made a notch in it to fit around lug wrench. I would replace that with Charles' mounting bracket. 14" spare, kinda the old, style 32 looking, kinda matched the Alpinas, spare was in good condition. Trunk carpet set very clean and complete. Power antennae. Full large trunk tool kit present, no towel, rear trunk lid liner in Excellent shape, no signs of moisture or water damage, no warping. Front eurolights, may be the US version??,sorry need to confirm this but they did have the cloudiness to them, Acetone will take care of that but in good condition anyway. New Front fog lenses. Rear tailights, shadowline and in great shape. Engine compartment....clean for not being detailed, all stickers present, correct VIN plate, Zinnerberot (sp), criuse control present, forgot to check that, sorry, but AC is fabulous, 39degrees and original. No LEAKS!!! OIL or PS, Oil cooler present and in GC. Cap for diagnostics plug, present. Oil seemed clean, synth. Reservoirs present and holding fluids,LOL. PS reservoir missing the big nut on top, the big rounded one, but they had a regular nut if you will. I really don't know how to describe it but you know what I mean. Lid was present. Firewall insulation in GC. Hood insulation needs to be replaced, as well as the rear vent insulation and front seal that runs across the top of the radiator. Slight , very slight wine in PS when turned to lock position, don't know if you need to worry about that or not, doubt it. Paint, was in good condition. Top of hood, roof and rear deck looked to be buffed out. Texture, lack of factory orange peel(??), was different than the sides. This maybe where it was detailed or to remove first signs of oxidation. I would buff, color sand, the entire car to even the textures, basically removing all orange peel. Slight Signs of Sunroof drain stains near the C-pillars, the buffing would take that out. AND, Only seen with my Sunglass's on,Oakleys, you can't see it without them, the Mtech kit has slight color difference than body. This could be due to the fact that people do not wax their spoilers/bumpers as much as the body of the car and over the years the color slightly changes. Car still has factory Mtech Stripe, thin, 2 stripe, orange and red I think???? down the body line. One ding found in the front passenger side fender, slight dent, coming from the inside out, smaller than a dime, paintless dent removal could take care of that. One other paint issue, but I won't post on that until I confirm it...not too big but do not want to report misinformation. Front Mtech bumper has pretty good scrapes to it, you can't see them from straight on, but if you get underneath they will jump right out at you. Missing the belly pan, but some of us were missing that too. rear in good shape, flares in good shape, sideskirts too, all present and accounted for on all four sides. Paint over all is in Good Shape, very shiney, has swirls and some scratches but a good detailing will take care of that. No it does not need a new paint job, unless you are looking for show quality. This car is a survivor, leave it that way. Overall, cleanest original, untouched car I have seen. Gave me a chubby!!! Upsides.... you don't find them like this anymore mit 76K too!! very original stock car, very complete and CLEAN!!!! Runs really well, really can't say anything bad about the car really. This car is and should stay a Sunday driver, it has been stored in his garage/basement for a long time and you can tell it, all this meant in a good way. the undercarriage does have some scrapes on the frame rails but all do. The underneath was so clean and original, not recently cleaned, that I could read the diff tag from the rear tailpipe area with just a flash light, it showed no signs of being cleaned, just being original and low mileage. NO RUST ANYWHERE FOUND ON THE CAR!!!! Downsides... Euro car, if you live in a emmisions check area you will have to do the Enchanter conversion on it, basically add an O2 sensor to the euro system, Tim can give you the details on that. $$$...??? Low option car, we all know what Tim paid but his was loaded, this car is euro with 4 PW,a Sunroof,OBC and AC besides the Mtech options that is. Did I like the car, you betchur nads I did, so much that I made an offer on the car..... somewhere between Toms bid and the owners asking price or what he is hoping for based on The M535i.org site........you know..we really need to hide all that info for just us guys...LOL Here's the price ready, sit down, $10K.....but that price does include a new windsheild and new top trim piece, not installed but delivered with it. If the car had the dogleg trannie, bronze tint, moonroof, headlight washers and rear headrests then I might go that high but that is me and that is a maybe.... This car is the real deal and very good example, the reason he is selling??? He has ordered a new Mini Cooper S, he sold his motorcycle already and needs to sell this to buy the mini, his father owned the car before him and he bought it from him. I wish that I had seen the ad his dad saw years ago because this is one really nice car..... If you want to call me and discuss this car, wait about 30 mins, I need to run to the store but I will be right back.... 8288983199 Overall, a very nice day...... :))))
